Tatoos

First off, I grew up around the groups that had 99% of the tattoos, bikers, military, pagans, and cons (ex-cons).

Tats used to mean something, they were something of a serious business. Nowadays, every teenager and his boyfriend has one, and most of them suck. Really badly. I'm all for a great piece of art, or a dedication, a momento of something REAL, but most tats I see are trifling garbage. Cliched tramp stamps, stupid barb wire wraps, flowers on girls feet, and I won't even start talking about how pathetic most of the "art" is. For God's sake, if you're going to ink up, get a real artist, not some meff addict who can draw comics real good when he's not in county.

The power and the point of the tat has been ruined by dumb ass American sheeple. I used to be amazed and enthralled by the art and the stories that went with tats (8 years for robbery, a dead friend, a military unit) and now it's almost all BS like "me and my girls all got these butterflies during Spring Break 2005 cuz we were like, really fucked up". :puke:

Is nothing sacred? Am I a jerk? Am I the only one who sees this? Discuss.

I agree. It's a fad that will fade with time, and there will be millions who will regret having permanently marked their bodies. I will lol, however.

Tattoos have been around since Indians used pine needles and dye from plants to mark themselves.  It's not a fad, it's not pop culture...it's human nature.

Not in Wesstern cultures. In fact, until very recently, it was pretty much relegated to low-lifes. It's wan't until the 90's that it became "Kewl" and tons of young people hopped on the bandwagon.

I feel better. And I'm cool with only "low lifes" having tats, at least the culture was theirs to some extent. Now the crap is mainstream and it's worthless.

I'm not gonna lie, I got a tattoo because I lost a pool game.

But I spent nearly 2 months picking out a tattoo that meant something to me and something I knew I wouldn't regret later.

There is no problem.  I don't care who likes my ink, it's mine, not theirs.  :evil:  I love it just as much as I love any other part of me, my fingernails or my hair.  The tramp stamp isn't the only one either, I have several wicked tattoos on various parts of my body and I love them all.

....and you are absolutely right.  My ink does mean zilch to anyone but me!  I'm the one who knows where each piece came from.  Where and why it was designed, who designed it, who put it on me, and why it is where it is on my body.  There are very few people on this planet who know the full story of all my tats.  It's my story to tell when I damn well feel like it.
