Are mushrooms natures capacitor???

Ok well I was cleaning out some jars to make some cheap capacitors out of (more for the 'its better to do it yourself and learn' factor.. not because of money restraints). And then today I thought, hmm I could probably use these to grow some mushrooms. Then I just thought.. are mushrooms the capacitor of nature? It'd be interesting to see whether they exponentially decay :P . Even if this thought is wrong, it just makes me even more interested in mycology.

Amazing thought man, I think you are right.  What if they are a flux capacitor?  This could be the beginning of something big.

Thanks mate.. My brain just works like that.. I string things together like that and then I have to backpeddle and work through it to see whether it will work if I can't see it instantaneously, which apart from making potty jokes etc is never. And to me the only way to distinguish between the rubbish ideas and those that will have merit is gut instinct. I had a good feeling about this one, however it will take a while to work through :smile:

hmm well traditionally Capacitance is proportional to electric flux between the plates of the device and inversly proportional to the voltage difference between the plates. ie C = Q/V Biologically it would be interesting to see if there was an analogy for mushrooms. Fluid mechanics has one after all (from memory). I really hope someone can dial into this idea and further it. I don't have time at the moment unfortunately.

Which basically means they are mutually exclusive, from what I understand (hence no such thing as a 'flux capacitor'). Anyhow, caps store energy nearly indefinitely when not attached to a circuit, while mushrooms quickly decay when detached. It is a very interesting idea though.

They are more like Van De Graff generators in my opinion. -- Or at least they look like 'em.

Holy shit man I just built a Butterworth filter based off the mushroom design.  Im thinking of trying to build an AM radio using mushrooms and the zucchini (which is natures transistor)

High energy capacitors can have a bleeder resistor attached between the anode and cathode so one won't blow one's fingers off accidentally. You could look at that decay as a natural form of such a thing.
