Well this is my 1st grow with them. I purchased these blocks from a farm. What i can tell you is that Ive read and heard is that some strains of maitake wont fruit when grown out indoors on sawdust. You need a proven fruiting strain culture. Its best to let them pin in the bag, to the point you get a brown mass about and inch or two high. Then cut a hole in the bag near the primordia and tape the rest of the bag down like in my picture. If you look one bag has one hole and the other 3 holes .These were grown on oak sawdust , spawned with lots of millet. Then after done fruiting , bury them outside in the ground and you ll get a huge fruit in the fall. Any other questions let me know and ill ask the mushroom farmer.

I guess my only questions would be where did he get the culture and how long from spawning the bags until fruiting.

Our culture came from a very reputable source who we have never had a bad culture from before. We have been leaving them in the bags, but the weeks go by and nothing. We use aspen sawdust which may have something to do with it, but I doubt it.

Thanks

He collected his from the wild. Ill ask about the incubation period soon. Here's some pix from today, lots of retarded shiitake ( should have followed RR's instructions) couple normal too, maitakes are looking good , and going to pick some king oysters before work.
