Obama: Economy Is 'Back From the Brink'

LOS ANGELES - President Barack Obama defended his Supreme Court pick and painted an upbeat vision of the economy Wednesday as he addressed major donors to the Democratic Party in Beverly Hills.

It's safe to say we have stepped back from the brink, that there is some calm that didn't exist before," Obama told donors and celebrities at the Beverly Hilton Hotel. He said the stimulus bill that Congress passed three months ago is starting to improve the economy.  telling supporters they, "ain't seen nothing yet."

Obama also addressed critics of his choice of federal judge Sonia Sotomayor for the nation's highest court.

Today press secretary Robert Gibbs (warned Republicans) not to criticize President Obama's first Supreme Court nominee:

The White House issued a pointed warning to opponents of Judge Sonia Sotomayor's Supreme Court nomination Wednesday, urging critics to measure their words carefully during a politically charged confirmation debate.

"I think it is probably important for anybody involved in this debate to be exceedingly careful with the way in which they've decided to describe different aspects of this impending confirmation," Gibbs said.

Are you reading something I missed?

I am in a minority on the shroomery, as I frequently defend the opposing side when they have a point about something or when my side make believes something about them.  I also attack my side if I think they're wrong.  People here get very confused by that and think it means I prefer the other side.

its HIS PORK BILL!

"President Obama’s central focus is on stimulating economic recovery and helping America emerge a stronger and more prosperous nation.

"President Obama’s first priority in confronting the economic crisis is to put Americans back to work. The American Recovery and Reinvestment Plan signed by the President will spur job creation. The recovery plan will save or create about 3.5 million jobs while investing in priorities that create sustainable economic growth for the future.

http://www.whitehouse.gov/issues/economy/

IMO HIS stimulus bill did not bring the economy from "back from the brink", and it didn't even "Improve the Economy" like he said.

what fucking economy is he living in!!! He's talking about the great improved economy that he saved and is raising cash in a state that's on the Verge of bankruptcy!

If anything i predict Obama monetizing HIS growing debt is going to end very badly....(check out the dollar today!)

Funny cause the world's elite (and our top treasury peeps) seem to disagree:

Quote:
This year the club is going to talk about depression. “According to the pre-meeting booklet sent out to attendees, Bilderberg is looking at two options,” says the Bilderberg-watcher Daniel Estulin — “either a prolonged, agonising depression that dooms the world to decades of stagnation, decline and poverty — or an intense but shorter depression that paves the way for a new sustainable economic world order, with less sovereignty but more efficiency.”

Uh-bama?

"A handful of high-ranking Obama administration officials this month delivered private briefings at the annual invitation-only conference held by an elite international organization known as the Bilderberg group.

"The closed meeting of some of the most powerful business, media and political leaders in North America and Western Europe heard from top Obama diplomats James Steinberg and Richard Holbrooke, who detailed the administration’s foreign policy, while economic adviser Paul Volcker, chairman of President Obama’s Economic Recovery Advisory Board, also gave a presentation at the heavily guarded seaside resort in Greece that hosted the event.

"Steinberg, the deputy secretary of state, gave a presentation on the administration’s broader foreign policy and National Security Agency Director Lt. Gen. Keith Alexander also participated in the conference.

"An assistant to Volcker said she did not know the subject of his presentation at this year’s meeting. A White House official stressed that Volcker is not a full-time employee and wasn’t representing Obama in Greece. The White House, State Department and NSA did not respond to questions about whether Alexander, Holbrooke and Steinberg – all repeat Bilderberger attendees – were representing the Obama administration at the meeting and whether tax dollars paid for their travel.

"Bilderbergers were torn between whether to initiate a prolonged, agonizing depression that dooms the world to decades of stagnation, decline and poverty … or an intense-but-shorter depression that paves the way for a new sustainable economic world order, with less sovereignty but more efficiency.”

"Estulin, the author of “The True Story of the Bilderberg Group,” claims to have infiltrated Bilderberg, and he told POLITICO that “in the end, the shorter-intense crowd within the Bilderbergers won out and so we’re going to be looking at a year, a year-and-a-half of really intense financial meltdown.”

"less sovereignty but more efficiency"

fucking great....

it wouldn't surprise me! It does seem that Obama is purposely trying to melt the system down.  (so he can create a new world order?)

Yeah, don't forget he also lied to Congress and the American people about weapons of mass destruction and the risks of Saddam Hussein's regime attacking the United States, which were fabricated by the administration.

Actually, the Iraq war bill gave Bush the discretion to launch the war, it compelled him in no way.

(Every congressman and senator involved should have been ridden out on a split rail for unconstitutionally abdicating their constitutional powers, but that's another issue.)

Um, yeah.  They could have.  Instead they gave Bush the OPTION, which Bush then chose to use.  Had they declared war, he would have had no choice.

So Bush can't hide behind congress on that one.
