I think even nothingness is unstable, hence the big bang coming into existence from non-existence.  Damn I guess that's an atheistic statement though.  I may be refining my beliefs.  Either way though it's all but beliefs, so to force your ideas like Roman Catholicism was forced on me makes me pitty the religion.  I sometimes felt my teachers were trying to make me believe this stuff to make them feel better as in "Ok this kid believes it then so should I right?"

In my high school a religion teacher got pregnant by my gradeschool priest.  the funniest part is this SHE GOT FIRED.  in the time when she would need money most the school let her go, how friendly is that?  But it's what she gets fucking idiot.

So which god?  Here is a very short list.

He didnt mention any god from a particular culture, so there is no reason to assume he meant one of those gods you list.  Better to assume he meant the generalized notion of god, y'know - some conscious entity that caused the big bang.

Ahh ok make it up as you go. OK then.

Really, the concept of "god" as the creator of the universe is a new Idea?
I had no idea, all this time I thought that it was the one underlying principal common to all of the theistic religions.

Making up what?  A common vein in every culture's idea of god is the idea that the universe was created by god.  I didnt make that up...

What is your bases of of higher power...other people? They thought the earth was flat!

How else are they to explain the world around them. Completely understandable, 2000 years ago.

A higher power is not the same as a god. Once is based on religion, the other is based on spirituality...like Einstein's god.

What are you talking about?  Who thought the world was flat?  Certainly nobody 2000 years ago - they measured the earths size earlier than that.  Regardless, I cant follow your logic...

In the matter of religion no one is correct. Saying there is no God is just as right as saying there is a God. With no proof on either sides both points are equally right and equally wrong.

So you believe in underwear gnomes!!!!

Can't prove they do not exist! :funny:

Yes you can answer this question, evidence and burden of prof. On one side there is absolutely no evidence. On the other side, proves that there is no, and can not be a sky fairy.

The earth is NOT 5000 years old, this is fact....

"By all means let's be open-minded, but not so open-minded that our brains drop out."~ Richard Dawkins

Please show me your proof. Let me also state that I do not believe in God. And if you're basing "God" off of the Bible then I don't even need to argue you with you, as Christianity is not the only religion to believe in God and is not even that old itself. We are debating the existence of a higher power, not man's version of God who punishes people.

Ok the higher power argument ok, then the burned is on you, show me what you have.

I don't have anything and neither do you! That's the point. I just hate when people act as if one answer is right or wrong. The Big Bang happened, so what? Couldn't God have been the cause of it? As I said I don't believe in God, but I do like to play the Devil's advocate. Bringing up Christian belief in a discussion of God is not only ignorant, but its not needed. What of the Islamic God? What of the Hindu Gods? What of Diests? Agnostics? People have been thinking about God since the inception of man, IT IS INNATE. Do I think Christianity is a farce? Yes. Do I think organized religion is a waste? Yes and it has probably caused more problems than any other structure, ever, but that does not do ANYTHING to prove or disprove God.

There isn't any definition for "god", it means something different for every person who uses it.

Your concept of "god" seems to be limited to standard western christian theology.

I think thats the biggest mistake most atheists (especially on this site) make.  Their atheism is based on an anti-christian mindset, not a logical argument.

I know what he means.  "A higher power" suggests a being which is separate from and more fundamental than the natural world, which to me is nonsensical.  There are many spiritual people, though, who would define an aspect of our own universe as 'god.'  I'm not sure that this is necessarily Einstein's god though...I think Einstein was probably the only person who knew who Einstein's god was...

Precisely. This can be seen as the Church's fault thought, but then again I think all organized religion is ludicrous. If I did believe in God I would do it on my own, not under the leadership of some Priest who thinks he is the step between man and God.

I never said I was right, I am asking where is the beef. Sure god could have started the big bang be so could a giant squirrel. Again there is no prof, just because words form a coherent sentence does not make it valid. It is innate only before facts and reason...science. Well if you can disprove the tenets of organized religion, I think that goes a long way of proving god is a bunk myth. If they are wrong...lol Well they are the holders of the key.

Well you are right about only Einstein knew who his god was. I've been reading about that, I have got no where to further understand what the hell his thoughts really were.

A giant squirrel could not have started the universe dude.  A squirrel has a definition that precludes it from doing that.  This is just a variant of the failed "celestial teapot" argument.

True. Since it has a definable stance, it's easy to learn the arguments that apply to anyone of that faith. I can not argue against each and every individual idea that people make up.

The teapot is just as relevant as the invisible pink unicorn or the flying spaghetti monster. Sure a squirrel could have, there is no evidence otherwise. What we call a squirrel is just a manifestation of the real squirrel god. Gibberish, yes just replace it with god and it is still gibberish.

Although most atheist arguments are based on Christian philosophy,
the same arguments can be made towards other religious philosophies
including those with multiple deities.

Reasoning can be applied to just about anything.
People rationalize what they choose to believe.

A "squirl" is by definition something that exists inside of, and in accordance with, the already existing universe.
