National guard signup

I'm heading out in a couple minutes for about 3 hours, so I'll try to make this clear the first time around.

I'm a couple hundred bucks short on rent so far and have been unable to find any work at all.  As a last resort, I'm contacting a guard recruiter, but I don't trust those bastards at all.

What would be the best position to sign up for for it to be a weekend deal, where I'm not likely to get shipped.  I don't care about maximizing the signup bonus.

But on the question of singup bonuses, do I get part of it when signing, or is it after basic?  If I don't, do you think I'd be able to get a cash advance with all the paperwork?

I'm not a big fan of the army or war, but a nice communications or logistics spot doesn't sound bad, and I really need to make rent, so I'm covering all my options.

That was probably the most important question atm.  Comments on cash advance anyone?  I guess I could just call up a place and ask, but I'm busy and lazy and need to keep the phone open :P

I am in the reserves, and wsa previously on active duty. You will not see a dime of your money till you are in basic when you are entered into payroll. as far as the bonus goes you will not be able to recieve that until you have met up with your new unit(after basic). All arnks in the army get paid the same based on how high you are ranked. as a new private you will not be making much at all(about 180 for a drill weekend). after 1 year you will stop pating into your GI bill and make around 200 for a drill weekend(2 days). It is not a bad idea but it has to be a booster rather then a income. I will say that i enjoy my time with my unit and my training, but you must also be ready to make sacrifices. I am having to take all my Finals 3 weeks early so i can go to advanced training, and it is a pain in the ass. I have also lost a good job because i wsnt able to work weekends once a month.
as far as good safe jobs go there are plenty in logistics and tehy are in high demand, but if i were to do it all over again i would have done the airforce. There benefits are just as good, and there are few jobs that will place you in immediate danger. if you have any more questions let me know.
