A few WA morels and stuff
    #10160649 -

yup spring is here for sure now, don't look outside, just take my word for it

went to check things out back east this weekend.  as I figured, morels were just getting started.  got some rain yesterday and today, might go take another look next weekend if I have time.  a few might have been pickable but I left them all to grow, several new ones popped up in the couple days I was over.  temps are still on the cool side and most plants/trees seem a week or 2 later than usual.  coprinus micaceus was the only other fresh mushroom I saw up anywhere.  here are some shots:

since morel hunting wasn't so great I spent a little time out wandering around sagebrush country checking out spring wildflowers and working on the photography skills, or lack thereof

Woolly-pod locoweed/milkvetch (Astragalus purshii).  played around with DOF stacking to get this pic, turned out pretty sweet, can't wait to try it on some mushrooms

Grass widows (Sisyrinchium inflatum), cool plants!

Sagebrush buttercup (Ranunculus glabberimus)

Sagebrush violet (Viola trinervata)

Arrowleaf balsamroot (Balsamorhiza sagittata) covered hillside

Cushion Phlox (Phlox hoodii) blooming on a hillside

Some basalt columns

Very nice
I am in SW WA and have yet to find any. I am hoping they will show soon. I have been checking the cottonwood bottoms where I normally find them. it seems way too wet yet.

nice finds

Awesome finds Spores, and awesome photos!!!  How did you do that depth of focus stacking on the locoweed?  Is that a special feature on your camera?  Depth of focus is really tricky with macros, definitely something I've been trying to work on lately.

I was just out in that same sage country a week ago! Locoweed and basalt columns :tongue2: :

I love it out east of the Cascades.  Reminds me of Colorado.

I'll be heading out there again for morels end of April/early May, PM me if you want to meet up  :headbang:

haha, you got a locoweed pic too? nice

pretty sure I know exactly where those columns are

I used the distance bracketing function in CHDK and a tripod to take several shots at different focus ranges and ran them through CombineZM.  takes a while but it seems to work well as long as there is no wind or movement between frames.

yeah I'd be down for a hunt over that way in a few weeks, we'll see how the weather shapes up in the next couple...
