Azure habitat question..

i was just wondering if azures required trees near by in order to grow in nature..i have been searching thru many dune grass/beach habitats along the oregon coast with no luck, then it dawned on me that since they are wood lovers, they should essentialy require a renewable source of wood (trees) near by in order to thrive..has anyone found them in just plain dune grasses on the beach, or are trees within the habitat required?..i've been to astoria once a few years ago, but i can't remember if there were trees around the dune grasses..thankz..

ive found em both around trees and in plain dune grasses where ya from close to portland?

they aren't exclusively wood lovers. when they grow mycorrhizaly with dune grasses i think they get all thier nutrients from the grass and don't need wood. this seems reasonable since the dune grasses tend to grow at least a hundred yards from the tree line at the coast.

..so they really don't require trees or any type of wood in the general vicinity?..dune grass and sand is enuf for them to thrive?..works for me i guess..

another quickie then..imagine essentialy 4 habitats on the beach, one after another starting at the waterline, then moving inland..first there is bare sand (1)...then there is a pretty much a 80/20 mix of grass and sand respectivly (2)..then there is the thicker, tall, deep 100% dune grass habitat (3)..and finally the more inland grasses growing along side many other plants and small bushes (4)..which of these habitats do these guys prefer?..or can they be found in all of them?....thankz..

i've only found them in the second environment, however, i know many who have found them in the same grass at different hab's.
it's more about the grass itself, i think....
find the grass in some trees? near the shore (really close to the shore) ?
they might be there.

ok, i normally wouldnt do this but DUDE! Go to the frigg'n mouth of the Columbia; on the shore of the Columbia and not the pacific. Then, look in the dunes between the coniferous trees closest to the shore. They will be open enough to provide good light. The grass will be tall enough to get you knees wet and look hard at those dunes they look like little grassy hills between coniferous trees in the open (they are not shaded from light or rain; just protected a little from wind). I know there are other habbitats but that is where i stay buisy and make sure you know what a galerina is!

thankz for the tip rude..i realize astoria/hammond is the place..but so does everyone else, and thats why i've been scouring dunescapes up and down the coast..i figure it would be great to find places where not too many others go ya' know..explore strange new worlds..it just seems everone makes a mad dash for astoria..not that i've had much luck elsewhere yet though..i just wanted to know if trees near by were required for them to thrive..peace..

I have found them in the bushes, in lawns, pastures, dunes, sticker bushes, and vacant lots.

They like the shelter of dune grass, it gives them there own little turaiam to grow in..But yes I have also found the in the forest under alder, trees.
