A "contemporary" classical piano album favorite of mine is by Dustin O'Halloran. It's called "Piano Solos 2".

Peaceful/ambient: I'd check out a guy by the name of Fennesz. The album "fi" by Bibio has been on my rotation ever since Blastrid posted it here years ago. Colleen is an amazing artist, I recommend the album "The golden morning breaks".. An artist named "Ducktails" is coming of e-age right now, his tape "Acres of Shade" is real nice. Google "ducktails blogspot" and you'll probably find him.  If you like more downtempo psychedelia ambient, somewhat similar to boards of canada (long description, sheesh!), check out Freescha. =]

Wish I could help you on the "amazing voices", but the names you listed and the things I enjoy aren't quite the same! If you give her a chance, Joanna Newsom tends to grow on people, and she has an amazing way with both the harp & her storytelling. Check out "Ys". In that same style, Hanne Hukkelberg has a few tunes I always go back to. I only have her EP "Cast Anchor", but it's really pretty, and I can't recommend it enough.

I hope that was a good start. I might have a few more things for you if I think hard enough. =]

Sharon Jones and The Dap kings, not really new.  You may or may not have heard of them or you may have.  But if you haven't then I would be remiss.

Also, Nina Simone pianist extraordinaire! At bottom.  her voice is so amazing. Her piano skills so amazing!

I reccommend Autechre to anybody regardless of musical taste. Youtube Eggshell by them.

Also Boards of Canada - Really chill, downtempo music with an extremely nostalgic feel to it.

The song that sums up your description to me is 'Clubbed to Death' by Rob Dougan.

Some beautiful piano and ambience. But very modern.

He also has a great vocal track called Furious Angels.
