i'm switching to DSL
    #10080154 -

i been using cable for a year now because the deal was the first year is only like 30bucks a month. well, my year is up and now it's like 46dollers. i really need to save as much money as i can so i looked into dsl. they have a plan for as low as 20bucks a month. since i only use the web for casual surfing, the shroomery, youtube, dl music, and email, i figured that i really dont need the speed of cable.
but i dont want a glorifed dialup 56k,

the 20 doller plan is
Up to 768 Kbps    downstream
Up to 384 Kbps    upstream

the 25 is
Up to 1.5 Mbps    down
Up to 384 Kbps    up

the 30 is
Up to 3.0 Mbps    down
Up to 512 Kbps    up

does someone know what speed will suffice? i know the avg speed of cable in my area is 4-6Mbps

you should really take the advertised speeds and cut them in half and that will typically be your average speed. I'm not saying you won't reach the top advertised speed, but more often than not you will be well below it.

20 dollar plan should be fine then.

DSL has much better response times than cable. If it's just going to be you using the internet, that shall be fast enough. Anyways, you can always upgrade

I never knew what DSL stood for until you forced me to google it out of curiosity. Digital subscriber line!
