Yeah somehow the idea of invisible radiation heating my food doesn't sound healthy, although i still do it.

So using regular ovens doesn't sound healthy either?

Radiation is a very loose and scary word.

Ovens work on convection dont they?

It may be a loose word, but you know what im referring to.

I stuck a styrofoam bowl in the microwave for too long once. It melted a hole right through the styrofoam on the bottom and all kinds of cheese melted through.. and apparently some of the styrofoam melted inside the bowl and melded with some of the cheese.

So yeah.

DO NOT microwave styrofoam! are you all fucking idiots? IF you do not for very long at all, it will start to melt and release toxic chemicals into your food. There are some microwavable styrofoam products out there but most take out containers are not.  Even the ones that are safe to do so are usually on a one time basis and not intended for repeated microwave use.

as far as i am concerned anything that has the potential to melt while in the microwave is not safe. And you probably will not die from ingesting small amounts of toxic chemicals, however compound that with all the other toxins we ingest daily and it can have serious side effects. Just use common sense, and don't believe the first article google spits out about something concerning your health.

If your packaging is made up mostly of low molecular weight styrene polymers then the chances of it leeching into your food is higher than normal1. Presence of abnormally high amounts of the styrene monomer are also quite dangerous.

If you're eating very greasy food the odds are probably higher
