Black on my graft
    #10067048 -

This was originally a pm to someone that had told me this before and I also didnt want to start a thread, but whatever.  I used the search engine but not for very long cuz i have a headache and nothing was coming up.

When I grafted and put the whole thing in a humidity tent, the part that was cut turned black, I'm assuming its mold.  The black part is dry though, what should I do with this? Do I recut it and put it in front of a fan? I would rather not recut it because I dont want to screw up my graft, but if I have to I will.  Here's a pic:

I can't answer your question, but what cacti are you using for the stalk, and is that a loph being grafted?

Looks like a loph or A. asterias on pilocereus azureus. It is starting to look a little bit like rot. How long has it been in the humidity tent?

Could just be drying oddly, remove it from the humidity tent if it is still in it and recut those pieces if it gets worse.

Yea to much humidity for to long and your inviting infection. With bigger columnar cacti like that humidity isn't really needed as much as say a periskiopsis and seedling graft. I took one like that recently and the grafting section turned real brown and looked like an infection had set in so I quickly recut and its growing just fine now.  So if you do have to recut you still have a chance. Best of luck.

Looks to be just some sort of mildew. I get this all the time on my outdoor cacti after they have been cut. The mold/mildew will just remain on the scabbed area and will do no harm to the cactus.

You're right Mankey, its an A. Asterias on a P. Azureus. I don't think its rot because its not soft, its hard and dry...just like it would be if it dried normaly, its just black. Satyr, mildew could be it, I did another one a while back and it had slight black that never grew but also never left. Good to hear it wont harm the cactus. Thanks for the replies guys, I appreciate it.  I have one more question:

If humidity tent is usually only used with pereskiopsis, then what exactly is the purpose of using high humidity for grafting?

The stock tends to dry more evenly and warp less, making them align better in high humidity.

Yeah, if you ever want to get rid of it you can simply mist it with peroxide, and it should destroy the mildew.
You could also wet the scab, and then the it will soften and can easily be scraped off of the top of the cactus.
I do this alot after it rains.
