Can I get Xanax from my normal doctor?

Was wondering if I can just go to my doctor's office to get my xanax scripts because the psychs never answer their phone and it would be cool if I could skip all the talk and advice and shit cause it's a waste of time.

If you are in america then every physician has teh ability , per federal law, to prescribe every drug, so yes.


Generally states don't restrict this ability beyond vague "scope of practice language".

Well yeah something like that, I can tell him the history I've had with psychs and I've tried every fuckin med they got and xanax is the only one that helps.

some doctors don't like to prescribe it at all even if you could use it and will make it the last resort some might just give it you if tell them the right symptoms.

The ODD has very good information on this. I'm not very informed this type of information. But, there are docs you can get ahold where alls you have to do is pay them, just need the connections. If you have medicaid, even better.

I think if your getting physically sick because of anxiety and can't sleep it's okay but you should eventually be winged off it by taking smaller strengths slowly so you can re adjust.

Very true. Even if it does work well for the patient. Since benzo addiction is just so nasty, it is often used as a short-term treatment or in small quantities for those that suffer from panic attacks. Another common use is a script for a short period while something like an SSRI is kicking in.

I'm sure there are just as many docs willing to give it out no matter what.

Are you really sure you want to go on that stuff? Are you familiar with its addictive properties?

I've already been on it for a year.  I stick to my prescribed dose so I haven't felt any addictive or withdraw things.

this IS something that is enforced, but generally a script written by a general practitioner will not be questioned.
If you bring in a script for xanax written by a dentist, good luck getting it filled unless its for 1-2 tabs for use prior to dental appointment or something like that or the pharmacist is shady or doesn't know what the hell they are doing.
If the script pad implies a specialty, they are going to pay attention to that at the pharmacy. If its just "John Doe, MD" up at the top then for the most part it will be OK as long as its a legit Rx and not a phony. Better have the MD's DEA number written or printed on the script though.

To the OP, as long as the doctor's office will write for it, you shouldn't have a problem getting it filled, basically.
