hitachi hdd
    #9959617 -

are they any good?  There is a 1tb on newegg for 87.99 and i have a coupon code for 10% off, then with free shipping, gets it down to $80 dollars delivered for a terabyte...

Anyone here have any experience with them?  I know to avoid my previous favorite drive maker, seagate, as lately that have had very bad failure rates.  And I know Western Digitals are always rock solid, and can get the WD Caviar 'green' for $95 delivered, of course, i would much rather save the money and go with the hitachi, but only if its reliable, if not, then the extra $15 is well worth it IMO...or maybe i should even step up to the black for 109 shipped?

thanks

Tb drives under $100.  10 years ago I would've never believed it would be possible!

I'm wondering the same thing.  I saw the same deal you're speaking about and want to buy one.  They have the Samsung 1TB with a 32MB cache (vs 16 for the Hitachi) for not much more, but I don't know about them either.

All my drives are Seagate's, but they're several years old and have given me no problems up until now.

EDIT - The Samsung is $89, so virtually the same price.  I just wonder which is better.

I've got 2 hitachis and one has failed (which was actually an enterprise level drive, go figure). I think I have electrical problems, but hitachi's are good. I'd recommend em. These days I go with Samsung, Hitachi, or... well that's it. I've gone through 3 seagates and 2 Western Digitals in the last 5 years, so I'm shying away from both of those for awhile.

I actually went with the WD Black, the one for 119.  I have read too many bad things about seagates lately, so am staying away.  And for some reason, I still don't trust either samsung or hitachi with hdd, just too 'new' i guess...hopefully it does me well, ive only ever had 1 hdd go out on me, and it was an old ass maxtor.

peace
