Re: 400G HDD & 160G HDD, (spare parts build) what would you do? [Re: CosmicJoke]

perhaps your 80 year old grand ma has a preference for linux. I personally use almost entirely linux these days, and switch over to my other pc with one partition as windows 8 and another as windows 7 once in awhile when there is a game I want to play. I'm not denying linux efficiency and for that matter simplicity, in fact:

I tried to fetch this page and see if what I was writing right now could be saved in an html file. Pretty simple command and I'm pretty sure you can't do that on windows. I'm just saying for some people it confuses them. Why? I don't know. Will I deny it? No

am entirely sure you could from cli with windows, maybe with bitsadmin from cmd and most certainly could be done from powershell...  or third party wise you can get wget and curl ports for windows yadda..

anyways, i still don't understand the point of this conversation... bottom line is you don't need to use cli period to do the shit the OP intended (web surfing and homework) - and it's arguably easier to set up such a rig with ubuntu (have yet to see it fail to get working lan or audio OOTB on any of the rigs i've used in ages) whereas with windows xp you're certainly going to be hunting down a whole host of drivers.  my point is that it is all around easier, very easy installer and pretty much comes with a complete set of apps for an average user OOTB.

It takes a lot of courage to go out there and radiate your essence.

I know you scared, you should ask us if we scared too.  If you was there, and we just knew you cared too.

just means out of the box -no additional set up- you install ubuntu and on first boot your wired lan and audio just work......i'd say virtually 99% of the time it nails audio, wired lan, and graphics acceleration these days...not to mention now during the installer you have the option to download and install the restricted 3rd party package support for flash player and mp3s, really everything most users want is already working on first boot.  it's easy skeezy to use.
