Need advice on how to break the ice with girls?

I have been noticing lately that girls are often staring at me, but unless I am drunk at a party, I find breaking the ice to be tricky.  Some examples of situations-

If I am at a party and I see a girl staring at me, would it be a good idea just to say anything I can think of like -"nice party" :confused:?

In college I get these situations too, but the problem is that there really is no easy way to break the ice because college isn't a party type setting and it's hard to come up with an excuse to say something to a girl that is across the room :confused:

Help me my friends. I feel like I have so much potential to get with many hot girls, but find myself confused as to how to start conversation.

Maybe just asking a girl simply and straight forward- "you wanna hang out" or "you wanna go out for a drink later"

You don't have to think of some excuse to say something. "Nice party" is lame. That might get a nod followed by an awkward silence and maybe some forced conversation.

Just go say hi. Say something random. Be more INTERESTING than some lame guy that can't think of anything other than "nice party."
At the very most that'll get you some drunk girl to fuck. If you're lucky.
Don't think about it so much. Just be yourself.

As a girl...I'd rather talk to some guy that randomly comes up to me and starts making conversation about something worth talking about than someone who awkwardly says "nice party"

I'm... by no means an expert with girls, but lately I've just been more talkative in general. The impression that I've gotten is it really doesn't matter what you start with. If it's going to go somewhere it likely will. Something will come to mind or either she'll lead it somewhere. If she's turned off by the first thing you say, unless it's obviously just dumb, then it probably wouldn't have gone anywhere to begin with and you've just saved yourself some time.

I too have problems with this though. I can hold a conversation fairly well, but I never know what to say, so I am interested in other replies here.

Open with something witty and slightly offensive (nothing overboard) that takes notice of something about her: "So are those blonde streaks in your hair natural or did you get hit by lightning on your way in?" or "Eww, what are you drinking, mud? You must be pretty dirty." If she responds with a shot to the arm or something similar then keep it up, gradually transitioning from jokes to actual conversation.

Or, If thats not your style

Start with an open ended question: "What do you think of so and so..?" or "So whats your favorite drink?" Anything that cant be answered in a single word. This will force her to respond to you and make it look like you are interested in what she is saying.

OP, one of my favorites for when you catch a girl eyeing you, is to wait a couple minutes, play it cool, look like you're having fun, and then walk over to her and say, "Are you shy?" she'll normally ask why you'd think that. tell her, "'cause i've been standing there for 10 minutes and you never came over."

Actually, I tend not to talk to girls unless I can think of something relevant (in the "I'm trying to pick a girl up" kind of way, not common social stuff). It's kind of a "if I don't have anything to say, I'd rather not try to force it" kind of situation. I find when I try to force something, I always feel like a dork after because I realize that I sounded forced. But if I actually have something to say that interests me, I find it much easier. I think I'm just not a pick up kind of guy.

It doesn't hurt when the girl makes the first move, too. :thumbup:
