Grocery Shopping On The Honor System - Technology ROCKS!!!

Stop & Shop is the first major grocery chain to institute self-scanning.

Here's how it works:

You get yourself a "loyalty card" (which most grocery chains offer for free (it saves you money on certain sale items))...

Scan your "loyalty card" at the "Scan It" kiosk, load your cart with empty bags, grab your assigned scanner and go shop.

Scan and bag your items.

When you're done, go to any checkout and scan the barcode at the register. Then scan your "loyalty card" again at the register.

Your scanned items (in the hand-held scanner) get transmitted from the scanner to the register.

Pay and go.

It's a total "honor-system" grocery shopping trip!!

There's NOTHING to prevent you from "miss-scanning" items that you bag!

Hmmmm!! Can you walk out with over $150.00 worth of meat (or whatever) that never got scanned??

I wonder!! :wink:

Anyone here have experience with this system?

Not this system, but at Lowes around here (home improvement store), they have implemented a similar system, but you have to drag all of your items over the counter, and I think it has some sort of weight sensor.  It can tell you when you have not bagged your items after you have scanned them. 

Also, there are people waiting at the door, so you can't exactly walk out with a bunch of stuff.  There are probably sensors that you have to deactivate for certain items.

We have stores like that here in north carolina called bloom.    i have only been there a few times, and was not too impressed.

Yeah, that's a TOTALLY different system that's been everywhere for a long time. The shelf wieghs the shit and it knows.

This new system has NO SCALE INVOLVED!!

TM, have you heard about these awesome things called Payphones? Instead of going to your house or using a cell phone, you can actually pay to use a phone in convenient locations!

Wait, I have honestly never heard of this before.
We're not talking about a self-checkout where you bring all your shit that makes you do someone else's job for free.
We're talking about scanning as you go, and simply paying for what you have on your way out.
Sounds like it eliminate lines. I'm sure they have some way of preventing theft.

well in albertsons (now called luckys here) if you don't want it to weigh it, you press "Skip Bagging" and it doesn't care. i never leave that place without a pound of chicken tenders and potatoes :crazy2:
