Me and my girl....An emotional blog.
    #9921271 -

I posted here a few months ago, saying that me and my girl of 5 years had split.

2 1/2 months down the track, my feelings have not changed. We still see each other once every week or two. The odd thing is, we have fun when we do. I look forward to seeing her, and being with her feels no different than when we were together. In fact, she usually SMS's me afterward saying how good it was too see me. And we have even agreed if we had met 5 years later, things would have been much different.

Now, a few things need to be noted. We broke up for a few reasons. The first is our age, she was only 16 when we started dating, me being 18. It was her first serious relationship, and like most first timers, she gave up allot for me, although I always encouraged her to pursue 'her' goals she neglected them allot and has only just realized this.

Another reason is my career and goals. I told her from the start that I'm a musician and will travel allot. It has finally come time, and in 2 months I leave home for up to a year. And I think it had dawned upon her that she will be alone, and she didn't have anything else besides me.

But I'm very confused. Every other break-up has had reasons. Something that I can state to be the reason it ended. But with my now ex, this isn't so. It feels like we are trying to stay apart, not that we want to be apart. I know that things can't re-kindle right now, as we still need to achieve our separate lives. But I feel that I may have let the best thing in my life slide away. I don't even like the idea of marriage, but I have lived the day I ask her to marry me over and over in my mind. I know people say 'it gets easier,' but what happens when it doesn't? What happens when every day you still think of that person? What happens when no one else will compare?

I know if I let go of her, I will be forever cold. Contrary to who I am, I'd become some kind of masculine sleaze bag, scared of commitment and alone for the rest of my life.

To those married/in a longer relationship....How do you ever know if you have found 'the' one?

You know shes the one when you can be with that person and have only a slight want to be with any other girl. I don't think I could get intimate with anyone else now that I'm married even if she said it was ok. Seriously, You won't know for sure, because anyone can be the one.

Best advice? See if she wants to do this and get back with you, and forever give up travelling, not necessarily music, or go travel if you can. I will never throw away my plans to be with a girl again and neither should you. Life isn't a movie. It rarely works out as portrayed.

Yeah, you got to get that disney love story stuff out of your head. That is a very sad situation and I can relate. Me and my ex dated for over a year and broke up the day before valentines day. There are lots of people out there who are perfect for you. Follow your dreams, don't be held back or you'll end up resenting her.

It sounds like you still got it pretty bad for this girl, and with 5 years of history it's pretty damn hard to try and move on. But what's ment to happen will happen. You will meet lots of new people, and one of them will be even better for you than her.

But if there's no real reason why you broke up and you both seem perfect for each other and realize where you went wrong then give it another try/let whatever happens happen. Just try to think of what will make you the happiest.

I very much agree, and as I said I am traveling. She's doing her 4th year in uni so we both are going our separate ways for a while.
I'm a realist. I know there is probably many more girls out there, but I don't want to look back and regret loosing her. I don't want to wake up one day, and think 'Fuck, why didn't I go back for her?'  She has been the only person who I've ever truly connected with.

I was just curious, what goes through your head when you find 'the one.' How do you decide for sure, 'Yes I want to be with this person for the rest of my life,' is it clear cut? Or is it just timing?

lemme throw in my two cents for ya there slick:

Quote:
I didn't get my first 'girlfriend' until I was already in High School...and I'm not talking 'First-Day Mr.Schnazzy-Pants' here either ---> I'm talking 'Junior-Year-Dweeb-O to the Extreme-O' (complete with drama club / rocket club / and lunchtime 'Magic The Gathering' tournaments in the library every day during lunch)

and *naturally* there were all the bone-headed things that come with that:
  • "ssooo...are you planning on going to the prom this year?"
  • "pfft...no"
  • "awe...that's too bad - I was kinda hoping you'd want to take me"
  • "what, like a friend or something?!?"
  • well...you know...ya, of course that's what I was thinking"
so long story short here - I was 17 before I got my first 'kiss'

and if that's not bad enough:

the bitch had already 'moved on' before we had even been together fora WEEK
(and not even over something important in the first place, mind you...we had just been to the prom together not even a full week earlier, and here I am - coming to visit this bitch (on her birthday no less) to 'surprise' her with my love, only to walk in on her with another man (and not just anyone for that matter...nah...this was one of my best friends to boot))

so yeah - that one ended with the quickness

and the moral of the story IS that I *did* in fact, stumble into the PERFECT girl years later (without even realizing that's what was happening) and I let that perfect little custard slip away too

and I lived through THAT ONE as well  :yesnod:

and the ultimate point IS:
