Lactuca Virosa Project

After a long night of weird partying, Ive decided finally to experiment with Lactuca Virosa (Wild Lettuce). Ive seen it everywhere and havent given it much attention until now. Ive picked a fairly large plant (about a meter in height) and have brought it home, and chopped it up and placed it in some hot water. The material is currently sitting on my stove on about mid/high temperature, and Im turning to the shroomery for some advice.

My goal is to extract, of course, the opium-like substance: lactucarium.
Would an A/B extraction be beneficial in any way, or am I better off not wasting my time, and some vinegar, by simply letting it simmer for a while? Also, I was curious as to whether the psychoactive chemicals in the plant are able to withstand a higher boil. The only information I have regarding the matter is that N-methyl-β-phenethylamine boils at ~200C. This is safe, though Im not sure if thats the only active chemical.

Im essentially looking for a quite simple extraction tek that preferably does not require me to go to great lengths by purchasing anything extravagant. I believe the only chemical I have at the moment is acetone.

Any suggestions are appreciated.

I am afraid I can't help much, but I am glad you posted this.

I have a couple of ounces of the same that I haven't done anything with.

I have read on Erowid that vinegar is not necessary, something about the plant being intolerant to acidic water.:shrug:

I also read that extraction can take days, and you should leave your solution in a dark place.

Thanks for clearing up the vinegar issue. I will update with whatever progress is made. The established plan for now is to simply let it boil for perhaps 3 hours, strain out the solids, and boil the liquid down to see what I've yielded. The solids will then be placed in a crock pot for a day or so and I'll see what I get from that.

it grows all over the place down here, its fun to harvest the latex from it and is not a bad smoke.

I've heard that this is not active, some report it as being dangerous.

I've read getting latex is better and easier than using the whole plant and if you want make extract of the latex to make it even more potent.

No its active but can be dangerous if taken to often or if you take/smoke too much at once.

really? damn i didn't know it was toxic? i posted a water extract pictorial here and somewhere else about 2-3 years ago. you guys probably can find it. it didn't do much for me(i smoked alot) but i have a very high opiate tolerence. the one thing i did note was feeling tired. not i have to sleep tired but i could go to bed now if i wanted to tired. i wouldn't do it again(waste of my time).
edit: some people did mention to go a/b on it. that could be while my water extract was lame. i collected about 20 or so plants and ended up with about7-10 grams of a goo type substance that looked like fake opium you might see in lots. floral taste but didn't do much. i know if you eat it plan to get sick(with the extract, cause my mom eats it like lettuce).

Ive smoked the latex before.......

Kinda sucks.

Short lasting less than 30 mins *almost* opiate like high, but not enough to count..... mostly just dizzy/drowsy.

If you have it growing wild, I would assume harvesting the latex would be your best bet for any sort of extraction. less material, more actives. re-newable resource.
