Got Fired Today for Doing the Right Thing. HELP

well, i'll keep it short for all you guys

today i got fired from my job of 1 1/2 years. i got fired because i "rallied people together to get my GM fired" and because "im a threat to the corporation".

this is why

My GM was fired from his past 2 GM jobs for sexual harassment. he has held down this current job for about 3 years. throughout these three years, corporate has been called on him 5+ times for sexual harassment. the man sexually harasses tons of girls *including a 16 year old* on a daily basis. the problem was that all the girls were too afraid to go to corporate because all the others who have done it in the past got fired soon after. i decided that i would stand up for what was right and try to rally people together to get him fired so the we wouldn't have to work in a hostile work environment where people are afraid to come into work.

GM found out, intimidated people into snitchin on me, got written statements, and fired me.

now, the DM*district manager aka GM's boss* told me that "I AM A THREAT TO THE CORPORATION" now... lets think about this. who is more of a threat to the corporation?

GM - Touches/Talks inappropriately to female coworkers.
Me - trys to get rid of GM for sexually harassing friends*and family* at work because hes sick of this shit.

also, a female coworker who he regularly harasses got found out also and hes firing her today, on the spot. hes afraid she will report him so he and the DM and going to get rid of her first.

me and a friend who also got wrongfully terminated plan on getting a lawyer and maybe trying to fight this. i need some advice.

anyone out there familiar with law?

thanks, please help me get this guy out of that place, what he does is truly immoral and everyone is sick of it.

would've been smarter to quietly get written testimonies from the girls he's harassed, contacted a lawyer (or corporate), and gotten him fired that way.

Talk to a reporter for your cities newspaper, as well as a lawyer.  Maybe the reporter will care enough to do an article, if you're lucky?  That would get some publicity at least.

That is a very rough situation friend, I honestly think though that because it wasn't a situation involving you directly that it might even be official for you to state it as a reason for being let go. Did you actually see any of this going down? or was it hearsay?

I am not all that familiar with employment law, but from what I've read you should have a shot at a wrongful termination suit.

Get a hold of the local TV news station. They love investigating these things. Most of them have some kind of people helper investigators. You could be on TV, get this asshole fired and get your job back.

Have each person write down, in detail, including specific dates of any harassment indecent. Check company log-books to see if any were ever entered. Give to lawyer. Wait.

this has a wrongful dismissal suit written all over it. plenty of law professionals would love to get their hands on this type of case (my roomate just took the LSAT's today for law school and he agrees)

you have the right to assemble!

now that you have been fired for exercising your rights.. tisk tisk on them. contact a local atturney, try to get one of the females on your side (make sure its a legit victim) and you got your self some muscle behind you.

I guess I would talk to a lawyer. They would know exactly what you can legally do about this, if anything. That's really F'd up though. Good for you though for doing the right thing :congrats:. It's really a bummer to lose your job, especially in this economy.

not trying to offend. but your friend is a long ways off from being able to evaluate whether or not a suit like this should be brought.

OP, you may have a case, and I would consult an attorney who specializes in employment law.

I am unsure whether employment/wrongful term type attorneys take cases like these on contingency. You may have to fork over a lot of money to fight this.

A lot of  your case would seem  to hinge on the willingness of the harassed females to be truthful about their harassment at the hands of the GM. If they weren't willing to cooperate and tell the truth before you got fired, what makes you think they'll cooperate later, at say, a deposition?

Also, these people that snitched on you... what exactly did they accuse you of doing? Were you doing things against Corp. policy? Or were they lying about you?

I heard some stuff just like this on NPR a few weeks ago.  Its actually illegal for a company to retaliate against employees who stand up for their rights.  You need to sue.

Sadly this is often not the case
Some states have an "At Will" law
Allowing employer to fire people "At Will"
Little or no reason need be given for a termination.
