Help me stick it to the pigs.
    #9752914 -

Unfortunately, this isn't going to be as cool as the subject makes it sound. But anyway, I got a speeding ticket. I want to go to court (I have a decent argument, but I won't get into that), but here's the problem: right now, my car is uninsured.

The cop, being "nice", only wrote that I had "no proof of insurance". That's a $155 fine, but it says that if valid insurance is provided within 2 weeks, the fine is reduced to $30. The speeding ticket is $110, and that's a lot of money for what was a simple mistake. If I went out and got my car insured now (which I'll have to do soon anyway, because my license expires next month), do you think they would accept that? Since the ticket was after midnight, I could get the insurance online tonight and have my coverage date listed as the same as the ticket date.

Basically, I don't want to go to court and get in more trouble, or be given a hard time, because my car was uninsured at the time. So, would it be worth the risk? Looking for help from some people with experience. Thank you. Free ratings for whoever is helpful (what a goddamn great incentive, right?).

As long as you show that you are currently covered on court day, your fine.

get insurance.
pay 140 bucks in fines.

You're not going to make any ground in court.

Well, my argument is that I was in an unfamiliar area, and there was no reasonable way for me to know the speed limit was 10 mph less than normal (speed limit on this road is usually 40 mph, but I guess dips to 30 mph in one spot). I was going 40. On top of that, I could request certification  that the radar unit was tested, along with the certification and serial number of the device used to test the radar unit. I could also ask for a speed study of the road. I'd like to see a cop prepared to deal with all of that. Can you say "dismissed"? Or would they still find a way to stick to me? What if I make a pretty poster board arguing my case?

What's my problem? With all of the backwards shit police do to people, I'm not going to have sympathy for them. There's a psychological term for what you suffer from: Stockholm Syndrome, which "describes the behavior of kidnap victims who, over time, become sympathetic to their captors." From Wikipedia: "According to the psychoanalytic view of the syndrome, the tendency might well be the result of employing the strategy evolved by newborn babies to form an emotional attachment to the nearest powerful adult in order to maximize the probability that this adult will enable — at the very least — the survival of the child, if not also prove to be a good parental figure. This syndrome is considered a prime example for the defense mechanism of identification."

I've seen cops ruin people's lives for no good reason, and I've been harassed and watched other people reduced to tears for no reason. Just because he decided to slap me instead of flog me, it doesn't mean I should be grateful.

Tell ya what, I'm not going to reason with someone looking for a fight. You will always be right in your own opinion, so good luck "stickin it to the pigs" in court. I didn't even read half the garble you just said. You seem half-what intelligent, yet you couldn't find a way to fill basic needs in our society, such as motor vehicle insurance?

no proof of insurance here doesnt get a fine, they just dismiss them.

get pre-paid legal, they handle tickets if you get them, among other things.

I'm not looking for fights. I'm trying to pry open minds. And, sorry, but the economy is rough in Michigan. I have a job but it isn't enough.

Unfortunately, its rough everywhere. I have to wait another week to get my PS3 out of the pawn, because my bank charged me $50 for a $2 overdraft, which stemmed from a pimple faced half stoned idiot teenager over charging me $3. While Im ranting, how is the fast food service where your at? For years, I never had a problem. Now, Im lucky if they even put half my order in a fucking bag.

Well, unfortunately, circumstances have me working in fast food right now (but I'm still going to college, so I'm not a complete loser, right?). And let me tell you, where I work, you're in deep shit if you mess even one order up that badly. Doing it often would definitely get you fired...
