Hare Krishna

I was invited to a Hare Krishna gathering... I am debating whether to go or not. Honestly, it scares me, and seems a bit like a cult to me. Can anyone tell me anything about it? I've heard about Hare Krishna before, but I really don't know much about it... Just from what I've heard its really strange....

it's just a branch of hindu, nothing to be scared of. my roommates parents are hare krisha devotees, and they are awesome people, very down to earth. you should go check it out, i'm sure it will be a unique experience.

They are kind of like ultra-hippies from what I gather. I think they are the type of people who went to India in the 60's and adopted some of its culture.

They are probably weird, but at the same time very chill.

i was tempted to go to a place they gathered at in kings cross when i used to work there(at the hospital)but i never made it past one of the 10 pubs i had to pass

anyone could go in and they only eat vegtarian i think and shave their heads

Hare Krsna is the "Kitchen Cult" of belief systems.

No sex, no booze, no intoxicants, no meat, no mushrooms, no garlic (SRSLY).

All you do is meditation, yoga, cooking and cleaning and learning vedic  texts and learning hindu.

They make great vegetarian food though.

yeah they did have a kitchen feast in there when i looked in

you forgot to mention that they sing along with those bells and stuff

i was fascinated by them back then when theyd appear

i followed them to their place but never got the nerve to go in coz they wierded me out

Don't worry, they won't hurt you, they'll probably try to get you to buy their books and join their cult though, but they're not pushy about it.

I love having intellectual arguements with them and stealing kisses from the female nuns (they're not allowed to do "things" with men, but I'm not in their religion, so why should I care? :P)

I would have thought so, what with it being an Indian sect and all. Besides growing mushrooms, one of my other big hobbies is cooking and Indian cuisine is one of my favorites. I can't really think of an Indian curry that doesn't use heaps of garlic.

they're fine, friendly and harmless.  If they're a hare krishna, they won't try to put you through anything that you wouldn't want to do.  There's many of them that are actually very supportive of your own philosophy and will give you advice(hopefully neutral) in the furthering of your journey through life.

I hope that makes sense bc I'm not gonna delve any further into it.
