Last Karaoke List
    #9643850 -

I'll be going to my last Karaoke in Japan tomorrow, and it will be with a few people that I have never been to karaoke with, which means I won't be comfortable singing my usual songs like System of a Down's "BYOB" and Eminem's "Fack" (though I might bust out Fack if I get drunk enough).  We'll take the box for at least 2 hours, so I'll probably get around 7 songs in.  I'm open to suggestions for songs that are not too hardcore and also not to difficult to sing.  I'll try to get pics, and at least let you know what I sang in return.  Thanks!

I'll be going with one American and one Japanese.  I'll add Dancing Queen to the list though.

As for what they'd like, really anything goes, but they don't seem to be the types who are into music where the vocals are more or less screaming (hence my aversion to SoaD but willingness to sing Eminem if I get some liquid courage in me).

I find it funny that Japanese people will go to these karaoke places / rent a machine for a couple of hours / and then go to a private booth and sing to themselves

They sing to the group of people that they go with.  It's a lot better than going to a Karaoke bar in the states in my opinion, where you have to wait an hour before your turn, forget what you were going to sing, and then sing it in front of a bunch of people you don't know.  And at 800yen(apx $7.60)/hour/person you get a private room and all the alcohol you can drink.

To filthee: yes will definitely be alc fueled.  You can order sake, beer, wine, and other cocktails (mostly chu-hi  which is a mix of sho-chu - a Korean liquor kind of like vodka - with fruit juice).

But that aside - I need some songs dammit.  If you guys don't say anything good, I'm going to end up singing "Come Sail Away" by Styx...  I felt like such a pussy the last time I got drunk and sang that:blush:

I want something that will make people go like this:discorex:

There's two versions, ya know  . .
Quote:
Music

The show's theme tune was credited to Henry Vars with lyrics by William "By" Dunham. In France the melody was known as "La Romance de Paris" ("The Love Song of Paris"). The words to the Flipper theme:

They call him Flipper, Flipper, faster than lightning,
No-one you see, is smarter than he,
And we know Flipper lives in a world full of wonder,
Lying there under, under the sea!
Everyone loves the king of the sea,
Ever so kind and gentle is he,
Tricks he will do when children appear,
And how they laugh when he's near!
They call him Flipper, Flipper, faster than lightning,
No-one you see, is smarter than he,
And we know Flipper lives in a world full of wonder,
Lying there under, under the sea!

The first five episodes of the second season feature a completely different recording of the theme, sung by Frankie Randall, with different lyrics:

We call him Flipper, Flipper, you'll see him smilin'
Right from the start, he'll play it smart.
Beware of Flipper, Flipper, he's such a lover,
You will discover when he steals your heart!
When you're feelin' sad, when you're feelin' blue,
He'll make you glad, yes, that's what he'll do,
And what he can do you'll never believe,
For he's got tricks up his sleeve!
Beware of Flipper, Flipper, he's such a lover,
You will discover when he steals your heart!

itd be cool to leave a real impression on them to leave dolphins etc alone and it grew

i have always gone up the midnorth coast of australia for holidays since i was 2 and im sure theres a dolphin that has known me all my life because theres been times when dolphins in the wild have approached me on their own and now i think it was always him like he knows me physically and maybe telepathically

could be my over active imagination and coincidence but i have a feeling im right so tell them to leave my brothers alone man:bonghit:

Added to the list.

It's about time to head to bed. I'll check this thread in the morning, write the songs down, and sing what seems like the most fun at the time!

So your posting of the theme song of an American television program from the 60's, (which I watched growing up) was not a comedic dig, but a call to the to stop the annual slaughter of dolphins by Japanese fishermen . . .  http://www.japanprobe.com/?p=530:strokebeard: . . . :peace:

Hmmmm... not in bed yet :frown:

I didn't think the Flipper song would be a dig on trying to get them to stop killing dolphins, nor would it be a concern on my side.  Japanese don't eat dolphins (though they do take in like 2/3 of the worlds tuna haul - which may net a dolphin or two).

I've eaten shark fin soup and it is tasty as hell - and good for you too.  But that is neither here nor there.  I am not going to stop a cultural tradition of harvesting the sea by singing a song.

so where is my happy music at.  Like Bob Marley - only the kind that a white guy with no rhythm can pull off :peace:

Sing 'No Woman No Cry,' but do the Fugees' version to the original, then watch the blank stares.

Follow up with a really bad Carpenters' song to get applause from everyone.

Japanese do indeed eat dolphins, but the whales are a much touchier topic. Do you know any good anti-whaling enka songs?  Didn't think so, you may have to improvise.

Sing 'Ponyo', but make up different words.
