Ever get awkward at meals?

I have had two meals in my life where I felt so awkward that I couldn't bring the food to my mouth. The first time it happened, two of my brothers and one of their wives took me out to eat for a birthday (long time ago) and I for some reason I couldn't physically lift my spoon to eat soup. Maybe it was cause of the drugs I was doing at the time, really not sure.
The other time was when I ate by my closest friends family. I felt too uncomfortable because I don't really know their family and wasn't talking much so it made me too awkward to eat. I used an excuse both times that my stomach was hurting or wasn't hungry.
Anyone else experience awkward meal moments? It's a pretty uneasy feeling when this thing happens but I combat it sometimes by eating with my left hand (for some reason using my switch hand makes it easier to eat in front of people). Soup is easily the worst food to eat when you feel awkward.

only if something really awkward is said, never for no reason.
even then, i grew up eating awkward meals all the time, so now i just find it funny. a lot of times i imagine making it more awkward by saying dumb shit like, "I love drugs, I used to grow them, and i have a pension for cocaine." Or just blurting out, "Every time i see a beautiful female i imagine her face covered in my cum."
usually i just start laughing out of the blue at these random thoughts, and it makes it more awkward b/c everyone wants to know what im laughing at and i refuse to tell them in a confrontational manner.

my little brother and i used to play a game when the rest of our family was shouting at each other. in a normal tone of voice we would admit fucked up things we had done, and we'd see how many things we could say before somebody paid attention.
i admitted to growing shrooms in my parents house (it was really the churches house, b/c my dad was a pastor). i admitted to getting high, doing coke, fucking a girl at a church event, jerking off in the church bathroom to Mary, and beating it to violent porn, among many other things.
i never wouldve known my little brother also smoked pot if it hadnt been for that game.

Ive had a few akward meals. Most of them were when I was highschool age, like when my pipe got found, when my dad read my trip reports, when they found some hardcore porn or after I got arrested.

I bet eating with your left hand makes it easier because you're concentrating on something other than the awkward meal.
And yes, I know what you mean.

I always, always get awkward at meals if they're with people I'm not very close with. I feel like if I don't eat their food I'll look like an asshole, like if I try it I might not like it and look like an asshole for only taking a couple bites, or like I'll just klutz it up somehow otherwise, as my klutzy ass is often wont to do.
I think it's because my grandpa used to yell at me about my awful table manners when I was an infant...
I always just say I already ate and I really just have no appetite at all, even if I'm starving.

I've had times where I couldn't eat after taking Ampicillin or Amoxicillin for a couple of days.

thats a really good idea.
I've noticed its much harder and more uncomfortable for me to eat in front of people after dosing LSD a few too many times in a few months.
This one time me and buddy were frying and he made some green tea and I just couldn't do it. I was so uncomfortable drinking it right then and there in front of him
It always gets awkward, but I usually just try to make it funny somehow, usually by observing the thoughts that run through my head.

lol I am the exact same sometimes I'll catch myself doing it like "WTF is wrong with you your starving and they offered you food and you turned it down" haha its so fucking stupid I can't understand it. A little off topic but heres another stupid thing that makes me feel awkward that shouldnt, sometimes when I'm watching tv even if I'm alone if someone is acting like a complete faggot on a show I get an embarrassed feeling and have to look away or change the channel as if I'm the one in the embarrassing situation.

who the hell puts a picture of a woman in the mens stall right in front of the toilet anyway?
i've also had the problem of turning down food offered to me when i was hungry. after being piss-poor and doing a lot of coke, i got over it.

i've had a few of those. one situation comes to mind last summer when i was invited to Friday's with the boss at my internship. i would never choose to go their on my own but the other two guys we were with wanted to. the sandwich i ordered turned out to be really disgusting (smothered in ketchup and greasy as fuck ) but he was paying for the meal so i had to act like i enjoyed it.
another thing i've realized is that i tend to eat much less when i am with other people.
