Helping with an ID(pics added)
    #952399 - 10/11/02 07:17 AM (22 years, 7 months ago)

The cap i found was amongst horse and cow manure.
ITs is a cream color that turns tan as it get bigger on the top.
The under side of the cap looks purpley red colored at night and more red at night it leaves a pink colored stain on a white towel if torn.It is in western arkansas and believe it or not grows out in the open near some cactus(with in 10 feet). it has a ring on the stem that seems to not be very predominant.on top of the cap .i couldnt get it to release any spores..Are these any good to eat? And to they have any benefits?
I also found another kind growing directly off the manure and they are orange topped verry slim with a white stalk..
Any ideas?
Also it has been raining like all week  and is still misty hope i find out befor the sun comes out....

Your specimens are members of the genus Agaricus (the same genus as the button mushrooms at the store). Identification to species is a bit more difficult.

First, we need to know about the bruising reaction. Cut the mushroom in half vertically and scrape the inside of the stem with the knife edge, especially near the base. It should change within a few minutes.

We also need to know about any odor they have. Smell near where the stem joins to the cap and near the base of the stem (crush the base with your fingers to make the smell stronger).

Keep us posted.

Happy mushrooming!
