Need help ID'n these
    #1895770 - 09/08/03 10:03 PM (13 years, 2 months ago)

Can anyone ID these for me please. I found em in some woods but they look kinda weird. Their were some that were a bit blue but that could have been mold or somin. Are they poisonous?

Thanks.

Damn they look like the very potent psilocybe cyanescens, ...If you live in the west it might be...spore print one, if its purplish well youre in luck...Might be something else, wait for someone more experimented than me to id ,  but if theyre cyans youre damn lucky

Now I just wonder why I found this pic right here

Well could you give us a real pic of what you found cuz those you posted were picked in seattle -> http://www.canedintotnes.co.uk/mushrooms/mushroom_nov.htm

If you just estimate that they look like the ones you found well it could be dangerous...

Grapefruity I never said that was a pic I took. They are identical but wanted to know if those (in the picture) are poisonous or not and are infact psychodelic.

Thanks.

I read the post as the picture was taken by you as well...

Amanita man I had the same reaction... He hasn't found p. cyancscens yet.. .that is a web photo.

The only way to even begin to start to ID the mushrooms you found in the woods is to take some home... Submit a detailed description, "found in the mushroom hunting faq's located at the top of the hunting forum, there are 3 of them", and then post some photos. You can place the specimens on a scanner and cover with a thick towel if you don't have a digital camera or pictures redily available. Once you have done this your mushrooms can be Identified with a mutch greater degree of certainty.. Whew; oh and next time be sure to clarify whether the photo's you post are indeed yours or credited to another person or website!!!! Folks around here get mighty excited to see photos like that one,,,they sure are beauties Thank You... Nofindum

This cool crop of magic mushrooms was sent to us by some dude in Seattle. A nice side view of some Psilocybe Cyanescens growing in wood chips.

it says that directly bellow the picture you used

now that tells people here that the ones in the picture are active

but unless you are skilled in identifying mushrooms that does not mean the ones that you found are the same as those in the picture
post a picture or information about the ones you found
otherwise you might run into the hospital if you're not careful

i knew that wasnt your pic, ive seen it before.
when youre looking for pics to compair your mushrooms to, dont just go to google and look up "magic mushrooms" or "blue caps" or something.
thats a good was to poison yourself.
theres a good chance you also have galerina autumnalis

If you want to get an ID on some mushrooms, there are a few things you need to do.

1. Pick 'em. There are a few very distinctive mushrooms that we can ID from a photo, but most of 'em we're gonna need to know more than what we can see in a photo.

2. Describe 'em. A photo helps - a picture is worth a thousand words. But take a photo of your specimens. Then tell us about the things we can't see in your photo. What color is the spore print? Do they have a distinctive odor? Are they slimy? Stuff like that.

3. Answer questions about 'em. Your initial descriptions will probably not contain all the information we need to ID your mushrooms.

You say that your mushrooms look "exactly" like the ones in that photo. How exact is exactly? Is the gill attachment the same? Spore print color? Habitat?

There are deadly poisonous mushrooms which are somewhat similar in appearance to those. Are you willing to risk slow death by liver failure as part of your efforts?

If you'll make the effort to give us that information, we'll make the effort to try and identify them.

Happy mushrooming!

Getting annoyed with these posts lately of UK cyan finds with no genuine pics to confirm. So here's an ACTUALLY REAL pic of part of last year's cyan haul (from southern england). It was the third or fourth flush from the beds I was picking from. I'm anticipating similar yeilds this year - the best flushes are usually later on, late oct early nov

xenophobic: get a pic, post a complete description or don't expect anyone to risk their reputation and/or concience on your life.

pluteus: you found at least 6-7 times as many cyans as i have ever found in any one season...

Attn PWN hunters: If you should come across a bluing Psilocybe matching P. pellicolusa please smell it.
If you detect a scent reminiscent of Anethole (anise) please preserve a specimen or two for study and please PM me.
