Java Problems

I started having problems with anything that uses Java earlier tonight.

There is a real nice free charting package that I use for my FX trading.

My wife got on the computer yesterday for the first time in months and went to this game sight where you can supposedly win money and shit and it wouldn't let her in because they said she needed to download the latest version of Java...Version 6, Update 10 I believe.

I didn't think much of it at the time but when I tried to access my charting package earlier the charts would not load up.

I tried downloading the latest version (I thought I already had it) everything went OK until the UPGRADING JAVA APPLET CACHE thing popped up. It would only get through about 20% of it and then it would just disappear.

So I did the system restore for a date before she did whatever she done and I still have the same problem.

All I want is to get it restored so I can access my charts.

Any help on how to fix what seems to be a very simple problem would be appreciated.

I am using XP with Firefox. Tried it with IE and the same thing happened.

Make sure java is enabled in firefox (edit > preferences > content), if that doesn't help:

Try uninstalling java from the add/remove programs list in your control panel, then go to the java website and d/l the newest version and reinstall it.

Java is enabled. But I couldn't get to that by going to EDIT, I had to use TOOLS>OPTIONS> and something else after that.

I did remove the entire thing and then tried to install in from scratch again.

No luck. Their web site has been no help either.

Everything goes fine. It tells me that it was successfully installed then moments later the---UPGRADING JAVA APPLET CACHE---comes up and after it gets through about 20% of the green bar going across the line it just disappears. I did clear my cache.

I ran into this problem before and doing the System Restore fixed it in minutes. This time it aint working.

Remove java in add/remove programs.
Go in Firefox
Tools > Add-ons > Plugins

If you see Java, then disable it.

Go to Sun's Java site and get the offline installer of the JRE. Get a "lite" version if possible. If not just get full JRE.

Install it.

Check your add-ons in Firefox and if it's still disabled, enable it.

You're probably trying to upgrade Java with the add-on manager.

I did what you told me to do and now my charts are up and running.

This really means a lot to me and I am very appreciative of your help, as well as Chemy's  help as well.

I owe you one.

I use these charts to trade the FOREX markets and without them I am lost. So now off I go to my charts; plotting support and Resistance levels and hopefully I will make some good trades in the next 10 hours.
