How hard would it be to bite your own finger off?

Do you think harder than taking a bite out of a tough steak? It seems like it could be easy if you bit between finger bones.

Just how tough is your flesh? Could you for example cut your hand off at the wrist as easily as cutting into a piece of meat with a serrated knife?

I'm not inclined to do any experiments.

have you ever tried biting through a chicken bone? Its really not that easy. You have to use your molars, and do a lot of pulling/stretching. And i'm sure the skin would be stretchy and difficult to tear off.

should be easy to bite through the flesh, but the tendons and ligaments that surround the joint may be a little tougher to get through, but the mouth is quite strong....something i too am unwilling to experiment.

Yeah at least on yourself...even if it was numb your brain would be restricting your full bite potential.  You'd need to do it to someone else.  :hehehe:

How hard would it be to bite or cut something off someone else's body using your teeth or a steak knife, but nothing sharper than that?

From a scientific standpoint, the bigger barrier to such self mutilation, whether it is biting off your finger, or taking a kitchen knife to your junk, is a psychological one. 

Your brain has to go into a weird feedback loop, where increased pain needs to push the cutting muscles to work even harder.  It's not something that would be favorable to the organism (at least not yet).

I gave myself a tedious, intricate scarification once.  I have a freakish pain tolerance, but even so I almost passed out just because mentally it's not easy to sit there for an hour slicing your skin up.  You'd have to be seriously desperate or fucked up to remove an appendage from yourself.

OP:  If you're fishing for tips on body dismemberment, just use an axe, okay?:grin:
