STOP AUSTRALIAN INTERNET CENSORSHIP
    #9281764 -

We need to get up stand up, stand up for our rights! ! !

No Clean Feed

What is the Government's plan?

Although the final details of the filtering plans have been kept under wraps, the Minister is on record as being firmly committed to a mandatory clean-feed internet to Australian homes, schools and public computers. A trial of filtering software by the ACMA has already been performed, with a "live" field pilot to follow later this year. We must act fast before millions of dollars are squandered on this technically impractical and democratically unworkable solution in search of a problem.
What do we know so far?

    * Filtering will be mandatory in all homes and schools across the country.1
    * The clean feed will censor material that is "harmful and inappropriate" for children.2
    * The filter will require a massive expansion of the ACMA's blacklist of prohibited content.3
    * The Government wants to use dynamic filters of questionable accuracy that slow the internet down by an average of 30%.4
    * The filtering will target legal as well as illegal material.5
    * $44m has been budgeted for the implementation of this scheme so far.6
    * The clean-feed for children will be opt-out, but a second filter will be mandatory for all Internet users.7
    * A live pilot deployment is going ahead in the near future.

Voice your opinion.

By letting policymakers know just what we think of the "clean feed" Internet filter, we can bring about a policy change. You can help by contacting your representatives and spreading the word about this campaign.

Contact Senator Conroy.

Contacting the Minister will let him know that his constituents, the Australian public, are not on board with his impractical plan.

Write to the Minister.

Senator Stephen Conroy
Minister for Broadband, Communications and the Digital Economy

if a new fairness doctrine were enacted this thing could definitely happen in the u.s.

hopefully that shit will stay a rumor. if the internet is taxed (taxed as in controlled by government) then we seriously are fucked to the max.

And our awesome government is trying to stop the 'Sexpo'. I was talking to an appropriately under dressed lady today who informed me that they are trying to get Melbourne to be more 'sporty'!?

Which is pretty crappy for me.....I mean, sex is my sport.

censoring the internet is a crime against freedom. a big one, i honestly dont see it happening, the people in charge of this really need to be fired or put in prison. its a huge entanglement to the development of the human race. its so wrong that it deserves a death sentence.

Surely this will never make it through.

I like to think Australians are on the ball most of the time, there's enough of a kerfuffle about this to make Conroy think twice. Once everyone realises it will/could drop our already pitiful speeds to a crawl, the mortgage belt will be  up in arms. To save his arse he'll back down.

But please sign the petition, it's for a good cause.

if it goes through then in hindsight we can say,"hey we pay for censored info thats free anyway and pay for flushing our shithouses too!"

I'm not concerned; the clean feed is doomed to fail. The ISPs are against it, and the populace is against it.

Yeah, because guns help stop internet censorship

demtel! haha

Still, I think the government would be better off charging exorbitant prices for water and electricity, it would stop people wasting it so much.

But as usual they all seem to have short sighted policies that are knee jerk and pander to the lowest common denominator.

This internet censorship policy is laughable. Surely the MP's have advisors that know better. Kinda makes you think that there's another agenda at play here.

All the rhetoric spouted by Rudd a year ago has turned into the same typical bureaucratic crap.

i agree with saving water but i dont think charging for a life necesity like water should be in the hands of politicians that only come up with ways to tax it but never fix it

the charging for flushing is suppose to be an american idea but they forget to mention americans dont pay for tap water(so i heard here)

more dams more dams

yeah but flushing your shitter isnt a necessity.

I'm not to sure on dams either filthee. Our river sytems are fucked as it is. It's such a complicated issue though.

I think I'm getting off topic as well.

what's funny is that one of rudds election promises was to build a new high speed national broadband network. that is actually the only reason i voted for him. i'm sure a lot of other people did the same thing.

still there is no new high speed national broadband network, and won't be for a fair while.
not only that, but now they want to filter what we look at.
