Alone in the Wilderness - The Story of Dick Proenneke * 1
    #9274701 -

Anyone ever see this?  Cant believe this is the first ive heard of it as ive been researching wilderness survival for some time now.  Sounds Fascinating!  Im downloading the whole thing as we speak as well as the follow up or something called, Alaska: Silence and Solitude, and The Frozen North.

Dick Proenneke retired at age 50 in 1967 and decided to build his own cabin on the shore of Twin Lakes. The first summer he scouted for the best cabin site, and cut and peeled the logs he would need for his cabin. Dick Proenneke returned the next summer to finish the cabin where he lived for over 30 years. Dick filmed his adventures, and Bob Swerer later turned the film into a video so we can all watch this amazing man build his cabin by hand.

In the spring of 1968, Richard Proenneke, 51 set off into the Alaskan wilderness to enjoy his retirement living in a backcountry cabin he crafted by hand. Over the next 35 years he lived here in solitude.

He was the man.

His cabin is still up as a remembrance to him.
Awesome movie... So good.

I can't find silence and solitude where the hell did you find it?!?!

Looks like one kick ass existence , yet I don't know if I could talk to myself for 35 years, I like human exchange.

no shit
altho i dug the book, and the movie and can kinda relate to the kid in some ways, as far as at least wantin to get away from society and such....
he lasted what.....2 months or something?
i been readin up on wilderness survival for years, lived in the woods for a bit as well, and still dont think i got the knowledge to put most of it to the test in the wild for too long before having to stock back up on supplies
i respect the kid in some respects but, he was pretty naive for thinkin he could pull it off.  i mean, i guess he could of if he hadnt eaten those bad seeds but, hence, he did and that shows his lack of knowledge however similar they looked to another edible substance....u gota know that type of shit
its not like goin into a store and getin knockoff Cambells chicken soup instead of Campbells
altho one might be of better quality, neither one will kill ya
