would this work in a fruting chamber?

I have a nicely sized rubbermaid type chest that Im going to use as my fruiting chamber. I will be lining the bottom with the moist perlite to add humidity. My question is could I line the bottom of the container with newspaper...then the perlite on top of the newspaper..then the cakes for fruiting on top of that? The reason for the newspaper is that when the perlite needs to be changed i could just wrap up the paper toss it and clean it out...instead of having a bunch of perlite all over my container etc... Would this work?

I wouldn't use newspaper. I think it would be better to use some kind of plastic instead.

what about lining the container with some sort of trash bag? Would that work?
