Oh, I learned long ago that most women like to be treated poorly and made to feel that you don't like them at all.

It's not that they like to be treated poorly; it's just that you're more mysterious and emotionally appealing to them if you present yourself as someone who's not predictable (i.e. compliments them everytime you see them, says the stereotypical "nice guy" things in an effort to hit on them, etc...)

The key is to use a mixture of positive and negative comments so they never know quite what to expect, and remain elusive (only not so much that you lose her interest entirely).  The ultimate goal is to make her so fascinated with you that she likes you more than you like her.
