Hunting the Elusive Psi. Sem. in Nova Scotia - Part III

Morning Everyone,

I decided the other week to venture off to a different county in search of psi. sem. in our beautiful province of Nova Scotia: namely, that of Hants County.  Our local shroom Diety, Mitchnast, is known to pick there so I was hoping the Gods would smile upon me.  I was confident I would find the one mushroom that has rejected all my attempts at being acquainted, but this time was no different :frown:.  In my quest to catalogue the local mushrooms I did, however, find my first Scleroderma which gave me great pleasure.

I was very pleased to find this.

I am uncertain what these are.  They had a very unusual cap.

Now this caught me off guard and at first frightened me.  The cows started to follow me around as a herd in nearly single file.  I suspect that they thought I was going to lead them out or something?

Pic. 5 is stropharia semiglobata always find them when looking for Libs always think they look active but no go. Looks like your looking in the spots.

Hey Blow_in, ok great.  Could you suggest a species designation for #4, the Scleroderma? Do you think scleroderma citrinum may match?

Hey Wiseguy, I wish my pictures included some libs like yours do :smile:.  I am just shocked that after visiting at least a dozen different pastures, I have yet to find one lib.

YEah, those cows probably thought you'd lead them somewhere. I get that a lot when I go hunting in cow fields. Sometimes, they will come charging at you in enthusiasm. I've never experienced them getting violent, but then again, I am careful to stay out of the way of any bulls.

The ones you're uncertain of could be ps. semiglobata or something similar. I'm not really sure either.

if you're not willing to get on your hands and knees, you can easily spend a season or more trying to find the first one. what you will usually notice though is that once you find that, you'll find the several next to it, and then suddenly they'll seem to be in every rank and tussock of grass.

Attn PWN hunters: If you should come across a bluing Psilocybe matching P. pellicolusa please smell it.
If you detect a scent reminiscent of Anethole (anise) please preserve a specimen or two for study and please PM me.
