i said hip hop is dead.  i'm sorry you took the phrase so literal.
i mean it as in what is making money today is not hip hop.
the mainstream pop club rap is making money not immortal
technique, not jedi mind tricks, not cunninlynguists, none of them.
hip hop is not thriving like it once was.  if you're not making money,
the majority of people are not going to listen to you. there's a lot of
good underground hip hop being put out nowadays but for most part...

hip hop is definitely in a coma knocking on heaven's door

i guess for now people are going to have to settle for hand me
down rhymes over repetitive electronic beats so you can dance.
all the rap today should not be made for dancing, there should
be some sort of equilibrium to keep a balance of beats to dance
to and beats with meaningful lyrics, good flow, etc.

Immortal technique is a good rapper.  I don't listen to much rap though.

Immortal Technique has the maaaad skillz.  Too bad most of his tunes are a bit average.  But that one tune, "Creation and Destruction", some of the best lyrics and flow, comparable to Biggie, it's so fucking sick.  Should be on youtube.. here..

American hip-hop isn't as strong as it was.  UK hip-hop is positively thriving, some of the stuff coming out over here is nuts.

I don't think hip hop will ever fade away. There is some semi-mainstream hip hop right now that is made by real hip hop artists and they've gotta be making money. The roots, talib kweli, lupe fiasco. There should be more though... I'm really hoping Eminems new album gets back to his roots and delivers (he used to be amazing) and the next Outkast album blows people away. Andre 3000 is the best rapper alive.
Overall I like your style and I wish more people shared your taste in music.

I'm really pulling for Dr. Dre's Detox and i also hope
eminem sticks to his roots and drops some bangin shit,
although to be honest im not to confident that either
albums will be all that good. Roots and Talib and Mos Def etc.
are all good but they still don't get nearly the same exposure.
It's a damn shame.

Rap started sucking about the time it stopped pissing people off and/or scaring them.

Don't get me wrong, there's been some great music made here and there, but the heart is mostly gone.

Nah, it's just that, in my personal opinion, one has to hunt for the nuggets of gold scattered throughout the shit. And a lot of shit there really is.

Yeah, but I'll always miss the days when you could pull put a rap tape and your friends would say "Oh man, my mom better not catch us with that". Now the mom's are the one listening to it while they're high on xanax themselves.

So I can't decide if that's a victory as far as a permeation of culture, or a failure to stay true to the heart of the music. I'd like to believe the former, but it's probably the latter.

peace

Rap music is the basest mirror of some of the darkest aspects of life imo.

As far as the house wife thing.. dunno bout that. Most house wives that I see getting barred out don't listen to much rap, at least not anything good, lol.

I think when rap music become a viable genre to the american people the people making it went from bitching about being on the bottom to using it as a tool to get on top as best they could, monetarily and in various other ways.

My 4000 cents.

Rap scares nobody. Andre talked about it being like punk music and how he felt sad for the fans who were there in the beginnings of both genres in the respect that the masses falling for the music destroyed the genre and what the original heads were anticipating as far as it's growth and so on. I agree with him.

My 4000 back at ya.
