like what goes through your head when you see certain people posting fucked up shit or what do you think of people imposing as other people?

do you laugh? do you cry? or do you just look away with no humor what so ever in the situation at hand?


P.S. I believe an admin is Tyrone for the simple fact he hasnt been banned yet

geokills here...  I think this forum definitely has its merits.  It certainly can be entertaining and eye-opening (and not only because I get to see who is making all of the posts :wink: ).  The only thing that bugs me, is when really good conversations get inundated with spam-like cheap humour.  This is the reason why I did in fact ban a user for repeatedly engaging in that "Tyrone" gag.  It seemed reasonable at the time, as the gag itself was taking over multiple topics that were otherwise fairly structured and unrelated.  Alas sometimes (as I'm sure most any human does), I get a little willful with a personal idea of what I would like the forum to be.  But when it comes down to it, most of these efforts to control are rather futile.  I've gotten a lot better about this over the years, and I promise that even my most unpopular actions are in fact implemented with a personal and positive goal to protect and promote the Shroomery, while preserving its standing as a valuable and entertaining resource for data and personal communication. 

I don't like to hold grudges, and I will admit that I do take seriously the disapproval people direct towards me and always attempt to re-evaluate my actions and explain myself where appropriate.  Just take a look at my most recent ratings, and realize that regardless of how unimportant internet ratings are in the grand scheme of things, the onslaught of negativity directed towards me over the past 24 hours does have an affect and is what largely has contributed to me making this post.  Regardless of how meaningful this place is to the average visitor, I take away a tremendous amount of satisfaction from my involvement here and in turn truly try to make this one of the best online communities in the world.  Sometimes I fuck up, but I'm not giving up.

Something I'm kinda curious about is, do you automatically see everyone's username? Or do you have to go out of your way to reveal it?

I don't read it that often.  I typically scan thread topics to make sure it isn't degrading in to an OTD type forum, but other than that, there simply isn't enough time in the day.  Every now and then, when the subject of a thread catches my eye, I will pay attention.

Pretty much what Geo said above, as well.

Also, when I do hand out bans from this forum, they tend to be very long (365 days typically) as we really don't have the time, or desire, to be policing anonymous trolls.

It is inconspicuous (that is to say that the left-hand column still appears as Anonymous for us),
but a user's ID is still readily available on the same page as the user's post itself.
