Brown rice powder in Casing mixture.
    #915153 - 09/28/02 03:22 PM (21 years, 6 months ago)

Im thinking maybe I could add Just a little bit like 1/4 cup or so of BRF to my casing as to add some nutrients to the fruits.
Feed back on this issue would be appreciated.

Casings are not supposed to contain nutritious substances.

This would be a bad idea... any airborne mold or fungus spore that landed on your
casing would have a ton of nutrients to take over. The point of the casing layer is
to retain water for the mycelium beneath, so the casing mixture used should have
high water retention and no nutrients.

No, it isn't very easy to dermine if verm is dry or wet. 50/50+ is a good casing. Don't get me wrong, verm works, its just hard to tell when it dries out.

I will do that with a single cake and see how it works.
If kept contaminate free, another worry is perhaps overcolonization of the cake, so timing would be a key as well as a cold shock, so it fruits before it overcolinates.
I will post the results in a new thread when the time comes.
Thanks for your input.

theres really no need.. you should have enough nutrition in the substrate, the risk far outweighs the benefits...
