Almost anything popular is going to be watered down and accessible. That's true for more than just music. It doesn't offend and has a huge appeal to many people.

I'll agree, I like the mainstream rap of old over the mainstream rap of new, but there's plenty of good shit to be found now too.

You're blaming the music when you should be blaming people, if anything.
And I was talking about pop music of today, since we live in this era, not the Beatles (thank god, all that shit was just as bad.)

Music is entertainment, spare me the "artistic integrity" crap. Not that music can't be about that, but that's not all music is about.

So you equate the inventiveness, musical ability and originality of the Beatles w Lil Wayne? If that is your honest appraisal, than I dont think there is really any point to my continuing to comment on this. That is what music is about to me, maybe not to you, but all I can express is my opinion. And I have to disagree that you HAVE to water down music to reach people. Thats bullshit man. If mainstream music industry wasn't so dollar-centric it could reach the same number of people with more quality acts.

If anything your making yourself look silly.  Why bring emotion into a debate?  Well bud, that's pretty what music is, recreating emotion.  This probably explains why you cant delve any deeper into music except for superficial pieces of shit like Wayne.

Yeah I don't usually get riled up over music, usually its just whatever you like is fine with me.  But when you introduce the advocation of violence to get what you want, the degrading of women, and centralizing your music around how much money you have in your lyrics, I cant help but get irritated.

As far as the actual music goes, its just as shitty as the lyrics.  Its not hard to create a catchy little beat, and come up with some clever sounding lyrics to impress a dumb audience.

im not offended by popular music, im offended by crappy music.  theres plenty of it, mainstream or not.  and its not just rap.  i hate alot of new shit.  theres just no substance anymore, its all the same regurgitated themes and very similar beats.  IMO i would say that 1 out of 15 new groups/bands/singers/rappers i hear come out these days is good, and id say 1 in 30 are awesome.
