Nice Lepista nuda find!

These were found in pine duff.  Beautiful but I haven't tasted any yet.  I took 5 caps to make prints with before the pictures, one is really big.  The same amount was collected yesterday.

Personally, I would print each one and confirm a pinkish-buff colored print. :thumbup:

Perhaps according to David Arora and Tom Volk, however, according to Index Fungorum, who specializes in mushroom synonyms, no.

Yeah they have a dirty pink print.
AND they are delicious.  Not unlike a button mushroom but with more aromatic undertones.  Prepared with olive oil and salt, they are slightly sweet.

I am going to plant a few cupfuls of stem butts into sawdust/chips/duff in cardboard boxes, see how they fare.

I would like a closer or larger shot and a spore print.  However from what I see I would say they are.  Spore prints are very important when trying to tell the difference between a Cortinarius and a Blewit.

Well, I looked up a bunch of cortinarius, and I actually DID find a deadly purple cort today, but I already ate these blewits. I compared a ton of pictures, so Im pretty damned confident it's cool. For some reason, I havn't even been able to get a print off a blewit yet, is that usual? I did leave these to print for a 2-3 hrs, but nothing dropped. And it wasn't white, either, I went over it very finely.

Plus, don't corts grow on wood and blewits on decaying leaves?

Well, all the rationalizing in the world won't help me if my liver starts failing... but I think it's okay.

The coloration on these leads me to think they are Blewits instead of Corts.  In my experience, Blewits do not print very well.  You have to catch them at just the right time.  I have a few prints that actually worked out but if the maturity is too young or too old, they will not print much at all.

How did they taste?

IMHO, they have a distinctive fruity smell also.  (Blewits)

That too.

For some odd reason the mushrooms in the summer smell like cigarettes and bug spray.  But only if I use my right hand.  :confused:

Haha, senor, I can totally relate to your last comment. I couldnt really taste them because I mixed them with shaggys and honeys, and added a whole bunch of seasonings. If the pther blewits in my backyard are ready today, I'd like to pick them and cook them a little bit simpler...
