Do you think there will ever be a time when we don't have to struggle?

We don't have to struggle now.  We have the technology now.  Unfortunately we still exist in a heirarchy structure where the powerful people will have someone wipe their ass and on the other end a child in Africa starves to death.

I think one day we will change.  This current structure will end.

It's a noble sentiment, to be sure.

I say let everyone else strive while I reap the benefits of your hard work.

Not everyone can be reaching for the same goal.

Some people put the needs of others first, while other people just strive to be happy.

Theres nothing wrong with either, IMO.

But life is competition.

I don't think life is pure competition. There are plenty of species who have symbiotic relationships with other species. Even humans are learning that we need to live with the earth rather than against it. When we are born we are immediately dependent on another creature for our survival and this is true for most other intelligent species. Co-operation is a very powerful survival trait. Not only co-operating within our own species but co-operating with others is beneficial because not many species can survive on their own, most of the time we are dependent on the health of an entire ecosystem for survival. I think its very possible that an intelligent alien species could be highly co-operative, although there are no guarantees of course.

i didn't read everything but, my take on it is that, as we all know many years ago the gov, maybe it was nasa? hired a bunch of hackers.  anyways these pictures in fields remind me very much of back in the old days when people did pictures with letters n crap in chat rooms.

so what im guessin is that these hackers hacked into some high tech secret computers and found the lazors we have in space, and used them to draw in fields.  infact, that video that supposedly shows the feilds being made....couldn't them lights be the end of the lazors?  just like a lazor pointer?  the pieces just seem to fit together so easily....so what am i missing here?

Once we finally all realize that we don't have to compete to survive, that cooperation and peace is better than rivalries and warfare, than we can finally accomplish all these things.

You act as if once every person agrees that cooperation and peace is better than warfare, that there will be no war ever again.

This is false.  In the first place, everybody will agree with you that peace is preferable to warfare.  But we still have wars.  Sometimes war is necessary, to prevent starvation due to lack of resources; sometimes it's necessary to protect one's self against other marauding tribes.  It's not pretty, but it's the way of life.  Just look at Nature sometime.  It's kill or be killed.

Secondly, suppose everyone did agree that peace and cooperation was better.  Then we no longer need armies; we no longer need a police force; etc etc.  Then it all it takes is for one bad egg to do no work, start stealing from others, and basically scavenge off the good work and efforts of others.

There is no single, fixed-point evolutionary optimization to the problem of good vs evil.  A society wholly composed of scavengers will be torn apart by its own chaos.  A society wholly composed to good, cooperative people like those you so idealistically describe will rapidly degenerate back into normalcy once a scavenger ratio appears.

In reality, good needs evil (and evil needs good) to survive.  There is no such thing as a perfect, war-free, competition-less world no matter how hard you try to believe it.

actually i would say life is evolving towards a point of low conflict.  i feel like we've had this conversation before, but i'd say all signs point towards immortal cyborg hive mind AI's running the show pretty soon.    not within our lifetime, but less than 200 years from now i can't imagine a different conclusion, unless science finally invents magic.

principle benifit of hivemind, co-operation instead of competition

i'd say a perfect,  war-free, competition-less world is inevitable.

Yeah, this looks like the most probable outcome in the next hundred years.  However, I disagree that the state of affairs then would necessarily be co-operation... just look at how many viruses are plaguing the Internet now, and the difficulties inherent in trying to build Friendly AI.  If an evolutionary niche exists, then AI will evolve to fit that niche, and competition and survival of the fittest will kick in guaranteed.

I'm pretty sure the corn fields were shown to be bent/broken stalks of corn. Not scorched by a laser from space.

i vagely remember a video from a long time ago and some guy said something about chemical reactions or something where the stalks were bent, and he went on to stay that in that particular case it proved that the stalks were heated up or chemicaly changed...something along those lines and that they weren't bent with sticks or w/e.  so i dunno in just this lazor example, id still have to say it might be possible if the lazor was dialed in currectly.  but im not smart enough to know all the factors that would be needed, i just know there's alot of stuff we don't know about, and something along the lines of a weapon from space may have created some of these complex designs.  and these designs are so reminicent from the old hacker days, so whoever made the design was at least moderatly intellegant and from that era.

but yah lazors was just one example im sure they have all kinds of crazy shit up there we can't even dream about, maybe some kind of gravity gun and the lights were just aiming lazors lol i dunno, or maybe it was nanobots or genetically modified corn with a mind of its own trying to send us a message :smilingpuppy:
