Tor should really do the trick, but it's slow at times, just be sure to also send your DNS requests through it.

I use to use tor but it quit working on me and I never got it back working again.

You can not be anonymous on the internet, and the more you try to, the more you become noticed.

Unrelated to security: Try Ubuntu Hardy Heron.  Get an encrypted router, and install Firestarter.  You may also opt to encryt your drives to....Truecrypt?

But your drives can still be decrypted and read/accessed, and you still wont ever be anonymous.

Sorry...

:jah:

Unless....you wardrive with garage sale equipment that you don't care about throwing away, and a bunch of throwaway network cards.

War driving out of the view of street cameras will be temporarily anon, but you gotta destroy your NIC card with your mac address on it when your done to be safe.

Care to elaborate ? I call BS.

Yes, if your password is alphanumeric and short and you don't erase it's stored version in RAM before shutting down. Otherwise, for now, with strong and good encryption, it's still quite hard to break.

All of those consumer/professional product encryption algorithms, have back door keys that are given to the FBI in the name of national security.

:rofl2:

And why call bullshit BEFORE I elaborate?  What are you ignorant?

Nobody restricted the discussion to consumer/professional products, but I will gladly wait for an elaboration

Oh I didn't realize that someone here invented their own encryption algorithm.  Now I am impressed.  Because if you bought your software from a company, the CIA and the FBI can get into it, I assure you.

And who ever said anything about conspiracy theories?

Did you just assume that because of my avatar or something?

No, I assumed so because that's always what you hear, CIA, FBI, NSA and stuff, easy and scary and appealing for the shear mystery of it.

What about published algorithms developed in an academic context ? It's not easy to implement a backdoor inside the algorithm itself. You could easily do so around in the program which implements it, but to do it on purpose is self-defeating to say the least, unless there's a conspiracy, a secret agreement between every researchers in the cryptography field that is.

Ok then,

If there is no back door to your software, well then we just feed that ol puppy into one of the pentagons quantum super computers, and it would be cracked before you could hear yourself fart.

But I still think you are kidding yourself about anonymity, and for the few people that try hard using Tor and other type stuff, you are the ones being investigated long before the average joe out in the open.

Peace brother....and good..:jah:...luck!!:jah:

yeah +1 for the tor network. i get pretty good speeds of it at times, it just seems to grind to a halt after about 30 minutes...

They can investigate tor all they want, it doesn't mean they can do jack shit. They don't waste their time if they know it's probably useless. They are too busy investigating kiddie porn and drugs to worry about anything else.
