Just so you guys know, if you vote for crazy names that are obvious jokes you run the risk of having your whole ballot nullified.  If Im incorrect, please inform me; but Im pretty sure this is the case.

It's common practice to discard valid ballots if there's no chance someone can win. For instance, I'm sure tons of Ron Paul write in won't even be counted.

They discard the whole ballot though?  Even your votes on propositions and representatives?  That doesnt make sense...

Oh no, not the whole ballot, I'm sorry. Just the vote for candidates that have no chance, not the whole thing.

Welcome to the Us election system... where a talking monkey won back to back Presidential elections.

I'm for Bob Barr, obviously... but more for the party than the candidate himself.

Now I think if you vote for say, 'Mickey Mouse' you do run the risk of having your whole ballot discarded...  Now that I think about it though, Im not sure.

I really don't understand why people waste their time going to vote when obviously your candidate has zero chance of winning. I mean, IT SUCKS that the American way is to only give two people the chance to run for office, and I totally disagree with that.
but do you really think the people counting your votes are going to be like "wow, I admire the courage of this person to vote outside the box, I'm gonna go fix the system right now!"
what are you hoping to achieve?

but to answer the question, definitely Steven Colbert!

The other point of view is that the two mainstream candidates are so similar that voting for either of them is a wasted vote, because the distinction is nill.  The third parties get only a few percent, so your vote in that group has a much bigger impact on the final numbers than you vote in the group of Rs and Ds, who combined get over ninety percent.

every time we vote 3rd party it makes it that much easier for the next guy if no one voted 3rd party we wouldnt have them

Opinions like that are spread by the Rs and Ds... Anyone telling you "a 3rd party vote is a wasted vote" will be forever stuck in a two party shitstym... You are foolish if you believe it.

1% becomes 2%.
2% becomes 4%.
4$ becomes 8%.

You dig?

What's dumb is people in NJ voting for McCain instead of a 3rd party. Obama is taking NJ regardless, so any idiot republicans in NJ please vote for Bob Barr!

Yes, but Barr has since changed his stance on that, as well as many other issues.  I'm considering voting for Barr, more as a vote for the party than for the candidate himself (as johnm said), but I admit his past record is quite troubling for anyone who believes in libertarian ideals.  Hence my leaning towards writing in Ron Paul.
