My bad. I really jumped on you and I was being a dick. Actually though that could possibly cause minor withdrawals after a while, nothing serious.

i just got scripted ativan (lorazepam) and i'm really enjoying it.  i'm gonna be taking it daily for a while to try and fix a fucked up muscle in my neck, and after that it will be just when i need it.  IMO drugs are a problem when you use them as a crutch and get addicted.  drugs arent bad when used smart though.

i just wanna say, i love u all.  :nicekitty:

Hmm, advice heeded man...

I'm not gonna give up just yet but thanks for the advice.  If that starts happening then I will knock it on the head straight away.

I'm pissed with losing so many years too weed - so I def don't want to lose more to another drug.

At the mo its just helping me pass this barrier of anxiety.

I havn't been with a girl and felt comfortable in years  its sad I know. I have issues.

A week in on this stuff and I felt relaxed enough to be myself and experience some of what I've missed out on for so long.

Good talking to you all by the way - thanks for being so compassionate in this thread.  Its just a load of BS really - that I know.  You are good people though - sometimes it helps so much just to talk thing through - even on an internet message board.

I didn't really understand at first, but as long as you realize daily use is a slippery slope you're probably doing it right. Your first post was so enthusiastic it really sounded like you were nosediving straight into addiction. I think benzos and stuff can probably be good for getting over the hump, AFAIK that is the only "correct" way to use them.

Good luck, man. :sun:

Its OK,
you are good to have the decency to explain yourself!

Some people would just continue to defend a false assumption.

I do this too man.  We are all communicating and just trying to understand each other through this medium.

Peace.

I wouldn't make a habit of it, even if you do use just enough to take care of anxiety.

I used to take it for that reason too, I would never take enough to fuck me up, barely enough to even feel it really, I would take the smallest amount that would help with my anxiety.  I still built a tolerance quickly, and I still suffered intensely from the withdrawals.

I rarely got fucked up on it, yet I still cannot remember atleast 3 months of my life.  And I'm not exaggerating either, I really CAN NOT remember hardly anything that happened during that time, I remember a few things, the rest of my memory is what I have gathered from other people.  I've met people recently that I apparently hung out with quite a few times then and it's like I'm meeting them for the first time.

You won't think it's messing with your memory that much now, but trust me, it IS fucking with it more than you know.

Listen to Rip.

In my experience... depending on a drug to alleviate negative aspects of your life (especially anxiety) has disastrous results when you stop taking em. The same problems come back twice as hard because you no longer are focused on mentally dealing with it, you forgot how to even begin to deal with it because eating a pill did the trick.

A lot of your anxiety problems seem really similar to mine Ego.  Xanax has saved my ass a lot of times, and I can honestly say its HELPED me improve my anxiety.  I've learned alot from it just by putting myself in situations that I would have never done before.  The thing is I dont even need xanax now for those situations because I've familiarized myself with them and overcame the anxiety surrounding them.  Xanax isn't the devil drug that some make it out to be.  If you use common sense it can be a good tool to help your anxiety and eventually you wont even need it anymore.

yes. xanax is the shit.
I definitely agree with you there, but once tolerance kicks in, which will happen if you continue using it, it morphs into the devil himself and rapes you in the ass. To put it lightly..
I only say this because I've been in a love-hate relationship with it.:fork: plus I've seen some of the nasty  things it can do.
You should take it easy with this drug or read up on it. At least don't drink heavily with it and take other pills for shit's sake..
be a responsible pill-popper (if there is such a thing?)..
:headbanger:

oh and you should maybe try out kava as an alternative to benzos. I'm still unsure about the supp., because of liver failure and all that..it's milder and is supposed to help with anxiety and insomnia, maybe depression too but I'm not sure.. I just came across it recently.

Just to add - it's only a devil drug when you start abusing it. Just like  many other drugs.

I've had a fair fucking share of Benzo experience, and trust me, the good effects will start to fade and become less and less effective and the withdrawal will become more evident. You will start to use more to achieve the same level of happiness and then you're fucked.

Experiment with it for 1-2 months and then stop.

Trust me. It's a bandage for your problems, and it has to come off at some stage.

This is the way I see it helping in the long term.
Operant conditioning creating cognitive shifts.

For those interested...
Operant conditioning can be described most simply as punishment and reinforcement. Reinforcement being anything that increases the likelihood of a behavior. Punishment being the opposite, anything that decreases the likelihood of a behavior.

Punishment and Reinforcement can then be broken down into positive and negative.
Positive being the addition of something. In reinforcement, the addition a reward. In punishment, the addition something aversive.
Negative is the removal of something. In reinforcement, the removal of something aversive. In punishment, the removal of something pleasant.

Anxiety is negatively reinforcing. As you experience the aversive effects, you seek to remove them. Removal of the aversive leads to reinforcement of that action. ex) You go to a party, become anxious, and leave sooner than if you didn't have the anxiety. When you leave, the anxiety fades away. This reinforces leaving the party early. Before you know it, you're leaving the party before you get there.

So in the pills case, it can alleviate that negative reinforcement by keeping you at the party from start to finish. This in turn can lead to positive reinforcement (addition of something pleasant). With enough positive reinforcements, your concept of what a party entails may shift.

Note: Classical conditioning can be easily included in this, but I didn't want to make this post longer than it already is. This is just an overview of how I see Xanax being able to aid in the removal of anxiety long term, without the need for addiction.

setback... memory loss would make learning difficult. If you experience severe memory loss, it is my opinion that it is time to cut it off.

I felt very much the same way about it, and still do. To me, Xanax is better than MDMA even. Obviously I like it way too much, and am psychologically addicted to it. Definitely one of the most addictive drugs i've taken so really be careful even if you've been good with everything else. Drinking and Xanax is not only potentially deadly but also a very bad state to be in. You might feel great, but you will look and act completely wasted without realizing just how bad you are. And if you overdo it plan on being sick as hell. As far as withdrawls, even after taking too much for a few weeks as long as you lower your dosage slowly with daily use you should be fine. Might feel a little strange and all that but you shouldn't have any seizures if your careful.

And besides all that, you might not realize it right away but it does slow you down if you take it everyday. To the point where you will be less productive at work for example, it is a depressant after all. I'm sure it does fuck with your memory as well but how bad i wouldn't know. Everyone really is different with this one, like i've said before some people take more than they should and damn near total their car without remembering it. Others can take twice as much, be high but still able to function normally enough for it to not be an obvious problem.

So I guess I just really wanted to say don't do what I have, and that's basically binge on the stuff every so often for a few weeks. It might not seem like it's causing that many problems, but it's probably not going to magically solve them either, unless you take the stuff forever which introduces more problems.
