I like spiders.  I let the little bastards hang out just about anywhere.    That spider up above looks like a jumping spider.  I have those around here too.  Those are the shit to watch.

My old house had wolf spiders that would crawl around the roof right over my bed while I was sleeping.  Made for interesting nights.

the thing is, we keep pets because we admire and have an affection for them.  spiders can be treated as pets and looked at in a similar way.. imo it's just that not everyone has an affection for the perceived smaller things in life.

But there's still a clear difference between keeping a cat as a pet and a spider as a pet.  The former is capable of demonstrating affection, cuddling up to you, being trained (well, mostly), and expressing love and devotion to its owner.  Spiders have a much less developed nervous system and are just not as capable as mammals are with reflecting back the energy that you've poured into them.

Parents are able to love their autistic children even if the child doesn't reflect those emotions.

Well of course I would rather have a "normal" child, but I wouldn't kill my kid if they turned out to have autism. :blush:

I'm not really trying to compare killing a spider to killing a human child, just saying that it is possible to feel some affection for something that doesn't seem to return that affection. 
I don't feel the same affection for a spider that I do for my little sister, but it is there. :shrug:

It's a bit of a false analogy, anyways.  Parents can't choose whether or not their kids will have autism, but we as pet-owners can choose whether to keep a spider or a cat.  (And the animal that shows more affection and gives back more love is the logical choice.)

Some people will eat slaughtered pigs and cows, which have more personality and a higher consciousness than any spider will ever have, yet they refuse to kill spiders; THAT I dont understand. Perhaps if they could eat the spider(like Brazillians do with tarantulas) then theyd find it acceptable to kill them.

i eat beef but i don't kill cows when not needed.

I have a fear of spiders. (if not irrational, as I live in New Zealand with only one known poisonous spider...?)

They seem alien to me, and unpredictable.

However, I do not kill a spider when I see one in my home, or anywhere.

Part of it is in defiance to my own fear.
