Wellington police worried by children and drugs

Wellington police are alarmed at the number of children being raised by or around drug users.

73 people have been arrested on serious drugs charges following a three month investigation. They face a raft of charges relating to manufacturing, distributing and using Class A and B drugs. Methamphetamine, cannabis, ecstasy and LSD have been found at a number of residential properties around the region. Police are after another 14 people, who they suspect will face similar charges.

Detective Senior Sergeant Darrin Thomson says they found half a dozen kids aged between three and 14 years living at the properties they raided. He says they are working with the relevant government agencies to ensure they are taken care of.

I hung out in bad neighborhoods about 15-20 years ago - when I was considered a CHILD no less! :rolleyes:

I couldn't even get to the end of the street before I had some scary hoodlum say "hey man - you want some 'cane'? How about about some 'fire'?"..

Yet some people still seem to be surprised when drugs get to their neighborhood. Now THAT is what surprises me!

"What about the children!?!", people cry. Well - they're the ones selling all that crap for Christ sakes! You think *I* want to try a drug that literally puts pot-marks in my brain - again, literally! (as in Ecstasy) Unless I'm going to be dying of cancer - I DON'T THINK SO!

The thing that weirds ME out is that it seems like these days parents know soo much more about all this 'drug stuff' going around with their kids - yet the authorities seem to be the most surprised by it.. As if they want to sensationalize it.

Hmmmm.... Does drug money go both ways????
I think it just might! How unfortunate. :sad:

I agree completely. Bullshit the cops are 'surprised.' They see awful shit every day, you think seeing E tabs around some kids is surprising to them? What they want to do is say they were shocked so people think "Well, if cops are shocked, it mus be terrible." Its just away to make drugs seem worse and the news seem more interesting
