My gf grew up in Hawaii, and she hates most forms of coconut even including "fresh" store bought coconuts on the mainland, though she claims to like fresh "real" coconuts on the island. Perhaps this is what she means; what do I know I'm just a mainland haole. :shrug:

while the coconuts are still green, yet matured, on the tree
the flesh is like jello, and the juice inside is carbonated and sweet

its a whole different ballpark.

Anyway I'm bumping this because I just had more young coconut and feel that I MUST emphasize how good they are.

Coconut flavored candy, shitty hard old ass coconuts, dried coconut flakes, and coconut desserts (like almond joys) don't even begin to capture the deliciousness of a fresh young coconut. If you don't like coconut try a young coconut. If you love coconut, but haven't tried young coconut try young coconut.

Ohhh it's so awesome. I can get them for a dollar a hit and they pack so many nutrients it's insane. If I had the motivation to focus on how to implement coconut in food more ways than just eating it plain I could probably save a ton of money making it the backbone of my diet. But fuck, when you open that thing it's so hard not to just guzzle that water and spoon out chunks of meat throughout the day. Screw shredding it and "milking" it and all that jazz.
