verm & spore print questions

hi all. newbie here. i have a couple questions for those in the know. i just bought some vermiculite from lowe's, and its pretty small (1-2mm diameter). the faq said this was ok for the substrate mix, but is it also ok for casing? i dont see how it would cause any problems, but would like to hear from those with experience.

also, i harvested one of my fruits to get a spore print, left it sit for a night, and when i came back the next day, nada. when i harvested it, the cap was not quite beginning to turn convex, but for some reason it was very wavy. (im not using
Psilocybe cyanescens , by the way.) what does this waviness and lack of spores indicate? does this indicate a lack of safety in eating in any way?
i appreciate any advice you all can give.
