A man is headed to trial after federal agents used an undercover mailbox to receive alleged interstate shipments of LSD.

Authorities believe Wallace E. Burke II of Durham, N.C. distributed 5,000 to 10,000 doses of LSD per week to various customers, and hippie festivals and gatherings throughout the country, according to federal court documents.

On Tuesday, Burke, 28, waived his right to have a judge decide if there is enough evidence to send him to trial on a felony charge of LSD distribution.

A trial date has not been set.

The confidential source alleged he or she saw Burke at the Rainbow Family gathering in early July and that the defendant said he anticipated receiving 1,500 LSD hits in at a post office in Boulder City, according to court documents.

"The (confidential source) further advised that it is common for hippies attending these music festival and hippie gatherings to have drugs sent to 'general delivery' at the nearest post office," court documents stated.

On July 10, the confidential source made a recorded telephone call to Burke and asked him to send a sheet of LSD doses to an undercover U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration post office mailbox in Cheyenne, according to court documents.

Burke allegedly told the confidential source that he was traveling from Kentucky to North Carolina but could mail the sheet from Charleston, W.Va.

About two hours later, the confidential source called Burke back, and the man's girlfriend, Carly E. "Sunrise" Erickson, allegedly answered the telephone and arranged to have the sheet mailed to Cheyenne.

The confidential source was told it would cost $250 and that it could be paid through a wire transfer to a Wal-Mart in Durham, N.C.

On July 11, federal agents accompanied the confidential source to Wal-Mart in Cheyenne and directed the person to wire the $250 to Burke, according to court documents. Later that day agents received a package at the mailbox.

"Investigators noted that the LSD blotter sheet was concealed in a 2008 Nebraska travel guide," court documents stated. "Additionally, the USPS envelope contained a map of western Nebraska."

The blotter sheet was sent to the DEA Western Regional Laboratory. On July 22, a forensic chemist told investigators it contained LSD.

Agents had the confidential source request more sheets from Burke, and DEA officers in Raleigh, N.C. conducted surveillance on the Durham address where they believe the defendant was living.

Burke was arrested and transported from North Carolina to Cheyenne to face charges in August, according to court documents.

If convicted of LSD distribution, Burke faces 5 to 40 years in prison, four years of supervised release and a $2 million fine.

I was at the gathering myself. Apparently the same undercovers come every year so that they dont raise any suspicion. I often wonder how many I talked to just like they were anyone else.

If it were me shipping it I would make sure ANY potential customer tripped while I watched before makeing any kinda sale. I also wouldnt be selling drugs.

Yes, definitely just a hippie drug. I mean, hippies are the only people in history that have used LSD right? Certainly never scientists, doctors, or therapists... They wouldn't dare print a story about crack with the headline: "Black People Drug Pinched"
