Suggestion for better URL insertion

I think it would be nice if you could select some text then turn it into a link. I find it quite frustrating not being able to do that, because I usually write a sentence first, then go back and add links to whatever words need it.

At the moment, any text you have selected when you press the URL button will be erased when the code is inserted. It should be pretty easy to implement my suggestion because things like the bold button already does it (it adds the tags before and after the selection).

What do you think? :strokebeard:

plus they have this feature, you can type the URL and the NAME of the link, whats your issue?!>?!

Yes but adding a link around selected text is a common feature on other message boards, as well as email programs. The Shroomery has so many features that others don't, but it's missing this one.

well it already has URL insertion and it works fine

Write a sentence, like "this page here has what you want", then copy a url into your clipboard, now try and turn that sentence into a hyperlink. That should show you what I mean.

this page has what you want

but your right it IS broken, cause no matter what u type as the name it deletes everything but the URL, i did notice this in the past.
still, the insert URL function IS here, and does insert the tags, the name part just doesnt work. im sure ythan would fix that for ya :smile:

Thank you for the example. This should be fixed now. In my tests everything seems to work as expected but I'm sure if there are any problems you guys will uncover them. :wink:

On the contrary, notice how when you press the URL button, the text in the textbox becomes deselected because the URL field is highlighted. This totally breaks the way the script determines where to insert the tags, and I had to rewrite some significant pieces of code to get it working again. I spent nearly two hours on this "easy fix".</rant>

I hate to be the bearer of bad news but it seems like since this was fixed (thanks, btw! that drove me crazy too) something else has changed. Now if I hit a button for B, I, U, etc...the text cursor ends up being after the (/b) tag instead of between the (b) tag and (/b) tag for example.  That's if I click it before typing in any text...any way to change it so that it makes the tags appear with the text cursor blinking between the two?

Jeez I feel like a nitpicka.
