The display driver has stopped working and has recovered

I got this message while playing Spore.
I don't understand, its not even like the graphics are that great with Spore.  I never had a problem while playing Bioshock.

The game would freeze, or the screen would go black, or have rendering problems, and then go back to normal when I hit control alt delete.
Then it would act up again a few seconds later.
It would flicker and shit, and now its doing it even when I'm not playing.

Its pissing me off, what can I do to fix this?

What kind of graphics card do you use?

Do you have the most up to date drivers for it?  I would try finding an upgrade to the drivers first.

NVIDIA GeForce 8500 GT

And thanks, I'll go about getting new drivers for it...

On the NVIDIA website, the only options for drivers for GeForce are like, 6 series, 7 series, 8 series, 200 series, etc...
Since mine is an 8500 does that make it an 8 series?

Aha, nevermind, I selected the driver I thought was right for me and looked at the products it supports.  I got it.

Okay, I updated the drivers and its still not working... The game played fine for a while when I first started, but for some reason when I got to the tribal age, it started fucking all up.

I can't even play it now because if I try, the rendering problems happen and then even if I close the game eventually my computer freezes.

I updated the drivers and scanned for viruses.  I'm thinking about just saying fuck Spore.

i have the same problem when trying to play unreal, think it just means our graphic cards are shitty, i play in safe mode, in a window rather than full screen, not as much fun but allows you to play the game without it crashing
