black metal is awesome...except that dimmu borgir isnt black metal.  dimmu borgir is 90% bullshit.  their old stuff has some merit but anything in the past 10 years is pretty horrid. 

you want good black metal, check out wolves in the throne room, early ulver, burzum of course, darkthrone, mayhem, 1349, and definitely emperor.  dimmu are overrated as fuck.

A lot of people claim Dimmu Borgir isn't black metal, but I'd say that's just a reaction agains their massive popularity (which I suppose goes against black metal's tradition of being underground).

Have you heard their recent songs Mourning Palace, Progenies of the Great Apocalypse, and The Serpentine Offering?  All superb IMO.

problem is I've heard too much new DB.  their first 2 albums were good, but after that its gone steadily downhill with occassional bursts of originality, but nothing too noteworthy. 

you want good new black metal, listen to wolves in the throne room's 2 albums:  a diadem of 12 stars, and the two hunters.
then talk to me about black metal.

they're beyond the black metal bands, as far as creativity and overall musicianship, imo.

I love the orchestral / symphonic stuff.

dang yea it must be the rammenstein things is i dont know any word of the norwegian/denmark/ whatever jus that one scene in pee wees big adventure has my childhood on lock down where the main singers doing his vid on the hood of some bad ass car with bitches everywhere and pee wee totally jus cuts through with a buncha donut eatin security guards jus a funny sitch in general

grundle i beleive is some rock band my friend listens too he's a lamb of god kinda dude but i always used it as slang for havin that demonic voice you know when you gotta entrance everyone with the virgen blood and the sacrificial babies

most songs on their albums are a good 15 minutes, so I cant really post them here either.  lemme find some torrents.  its not worth it listening to just one song.  their albums as wholes are much better.  not to say each song isnt good on its own...

I knowww... any combination of symphonic orchestra with metal is just a win.  Nightwish is also a sexcellent band in that vein, although not quite as hardcore as Dimmu Borgir.  I've been trying to find similar symphonic black metal, but haven't been able to find any decent replacement bands.  Any recs?

I tried their album Anthems to the Welkin at Dusk, but it just didn't stick very well.  Not enough melody for my tastes, IMO.  Then again, I didn't give it very many listens so it could grow on me eventually.

I didnt get emperor till a good 5-10 listens to anthems, prometheus might be more accessible.  or IX equilibrium
